Master  2125   |  Subject: rear bottle cages that don't launch bottlesI have a Xlab Flat Wing with Profile Design Kages mounted to my seat. Last weekend, I had a launchfest with my water bottles and eventualy left one out on the road (launch and I didn't know it). So I'm thinking about replacing the Profile Design Kages with something else. They may just be worn out (stretched too big) so I may go with another set of Kages but what does everyone else use (that uses a rear bottle setup)? |

Expert 1049  Burnaby, BC | Subject: RE: rear bottle cages that don't launch bottles I've just switched to a flat wing and am using some Cateye cages that were recommended to me by the shop owner. He claims he's not had any launches from them and they're cheap.

I wonder if they are just getting stretched..I've used these for over 2 years without a problem until more recently. I have heard carbon cages don't hold well...so I'm interested in hearing any good recommendations too... |

I would jsut stay away from carbon. I forgot which ones I got but in my century ride I hit a bump and lost them both, but at the same time my bottles were frozen which might have explained why they launched |

| Nor*Cal | Subject: RE: rear bottle cages that don't launch bottles When I had carbon cages on my hydrotail, I tried lots of things to prevent my bottles from ejecting. Electric tape and small pieces of rubber inside the cages to grip the water bottle didn't help. I eventually replaced the carbon cages with plain metal ones. I have them bent in slightly so they have a death grip on the bottles, but still easy to get them out when _I_ want them to. I haven't had a single bottle eject even after some nasty bumps where I almost got ejected. -ak- |

I figure over time they'll get looser, so if you have those black rubber bands that came with the kages, you might want to put them back on if you're launching bottles. I took them off initially because it's too snug. |
