Subject: *sigh* Letting IMOO pass this year
This is my first year of these. My plan was sprints/Olys this year, a handful of HIMs next year then find a later full IM for 2010.

I had no idea how much I would get hooked on these. None. I've been sitting here messing around with the sign up page for the 9/13/2009 IMWI and finally just closed that tab before I committed.

Next year HIM, next year HIM, next year HIM. Get a base set up for a couple years before going whole hog.

Grrr. Sorry, just frustrated/venting.

Hey, I can't wait until Oct 1st to sign up for the Mooseman and Timberman Halfs next year

Patience, Daniel, patience.

Go at it too hard and you're going to hurt yourself. I too started tri's this year, and I too could see myself doing an IM next year, BUT, you have to build a base. I know 1 year out is enough time, but, get the experience of a few smaller (shorter) races in first before going for the big Kahuna.

Training for a Sprint, Oly, or even HIM is a lot different and requires much less of a commitment than a full blown IM.

Good luck in your training and maybe we'll become IM in late 2010.

i know it can be tough too, this is my second season, but a little over 1 year of training.  for me, my rational is i'd rather train enough to get a solid base and get fast at the distances, and gradually progress up.  for me, that means HIM's next year, and IM 2010 (as long as the scheduling works out and i don't think HIM's are long enough).

For me, i don't know how many IM's I'll get a chance to do, once i get a little older, so i'd rather work hard and try to KQ while my AG is easier and i have a little more time!

You have a long time to be in this.  There's no reason to rush to doing an IM and risk injuring yourself.  Take the time to build to that distance properly and enjoy the journey along the way.

You can find thousands of people who jumped into Ironman too soon, including me.

Wait a year or two or however many it takes to really be ready. Enjoy your first Ironman, don't suffer through it. If you want to hurt then wait for your 2nd IM shoot and for a PR.

I'm not terribly sure there will be a "2nd IM" I'm liking the 1 and done idea with HIMs as good workouts during the year. Suffer, enjoy, whatever, just <16:59:59

x2.  There really seems to be a lot of people doing IM distance just cuz they know a guy that did it.  Thats fine if you are ready to commit to the training and respect the distance, but I get the feel sometime that there is a romantic notion about what the race and training are about.

I knew I wasn't ready for an IM until now, my 5th year of tri training. I signed up for IMMOO this morning.

For me, the jump from Oly's to an HIM was HUGE-- long distance is a completely different mentality and strategy. You really have to know your body and how it will respond in terms of nutrition and training stresses. It took me two seasons of HIM's to develop that.

Take your time. IM ain't going anywhere.

I'm ex-Army, I'm already familiar with where my lines are and what getting close to them feels like. That's why I've got no problem going to HIMs the second year, training for them feels close to how I like to work out.

I appreciate the comments, they help. I'm just griping a bit even though I know it's for the best to wait another year

You don't know how addictive that finish line is.... yet.

Yep, that was me.  I said I was a one and done IMer, but after crossing the line at CDA, I knew I would sign up again......And that day was today!  IMOO 09 here I come.

I can't wait to sign up for my next one...Last week I almost signed up for IMC..got into active paused and then got shut out. Left home today for IM Moo registration. I'm sticking with the IMFL plan but I want to be registered and in. I thought I'd do one and maybe be done. I love the long stuff..love long training. But IM experience is amazing...can't wait to go back for me..maybe do a little better too. The fear of the distance will be gone, but I will always respect the distance.
