Did anyone else see all those GU's on the jerseys and the field and think about gels and how much publicity they were getting, then realizing later it was for Gene Upshaw.

I actually didnt think of GU gel at all until you just mentioned it. They had been talkng about it during pregame shows, plus I think that most people who follow football probably made the Gene Upshaw connection immediately. However, your observation is pretty funny.

I didn't think of GU either until someone mentioned it on the forums a couple days ago. I had read on espn.com that everyone was getting the Gene Upshaw patch / field logo so it never crossed my mind.

I though of the gel. I'm not a very mainstream sports guy. I was at a wedding Sat night and there was a college football game on at the bar in the hotel. By the middle of the wedding all the guys were at the bar watching football. Not me, I got to dance and flirt with all their wives!!!(who were very receptive btw) Nice...

Yeah, I first thought of the gel until I saw the number underneath it and then said , "No thats for Gene Upshaw"

I'm a huge football fan and i've never heard of "Gene Upshaw". I don't follow the news much, just the games and teams. Not a big name guy. I did however think about all the people watching and thinking i wonder what GU stands for. Then getting on their computers and typing it in and GU gel getting tons of free ads.

Yeah, I was thinking GU gel too, and I know who Gene Upshaw is/was. In fact it spurned a little spat with the wife over the spelling of gu gel and we googled it and I was proven right and felt so smug and tri-smart to know about gu. I will now humble myself and forward her this post...
