Subject: Looking for a swim workout.

My plan has a couple workouts that call for me to go to a Master's program.  That is problematic.

I need suggestions for a 4000 and 4500 yard workout.  I'm sure I can find a couple in the plan that cover this distance, but this is an oportunity to go "off-plan" and do something different.

So, any fun 4000 and 4500 yard workouts you know of?  Any suggestion is welcome.  I'm not looking for anything specific except for something that might me done in a master's program.  So speed work, endurance, etc., anything is open for consideration.

I just started using www.swimplan.com

I like how they set up the work outs.

Junky J - I just sent you some workouts in an email. It may have gone to your spam but I made sure to include comments about Viagra, Cialis, Green Tea PRO, and Oprah, so hopefully it got through.

It should get through - I permit all of those things....  Along with "find singles in your area" stuff...

CD: whatever you want, I usually do 200 of drills.

or you can go with the ever popular 1x 4000.

I sometimes look at the USMS(US Masters Swimming)website in their forums.  They post a lot of workouts there.  Even if I don't like 100% of the workout it's easier to change something around if I have a good workout to start with.

Or, you can do my swim from this AM(4100):
1x500 warmup- swim/kick
6x200- odd easy, even fast- #2- 2:53/#4- 2:55
3x200 kick(#1-easy/#2- 100 easy-100 fast/#3-fast)
1x500 pull(odd- breathe every 3/even- breathe every 5)
6x100 steady @ 85%- 1:24/1:26/1:26/1:26/1:27/1:26
1x600- buoy/paddles/fins, remove one after each 150, last 150 is swim*
*this was very odd, I'd do something else instead.  We think the coach just needed a good laugh!
1x100 easy

Does the MGM still have that lazy river in their pool complex? Go swim against the current and dodge tourists and children on floats for an hour. It might be a good simulation for an open water IM swim leg.

Sarcasm font noted.  Every time I post a "request for swim workout" thread at least 1 wiseass does the 1x options.  I thought I'd be that wiseass today.

Well, you are training for an IM, I would suggest at least one 4K+ straight swim.

Other options

4 x 1000

or my fall back favorite, do these all on the same interval and hold the same split so they get harder and then easier:
1 x 400
2 x 300
3 x 200
8 x 100
3 x 200
2 x 300
1 x 400

5 X (100 IM, 100 free)
1000 free
100 IM
100 free
100 IM
200 free

I like that one! It would be tough to swim with three of those things at once though!

That doesn't look bad -  may try that.  The plan has a long swim built in it already, I'm just looking for a substitute for a master swim workout, which most likely are not one continuous swim.
