Subject: Carbon Fiber bikes on indoor trainers? Any issues?
Hello everyone,

I just ordered my new pedalforce.com aeroblade last week, and i am trying to plan my comeback into triathlon. I was shopping around for indoor trainers (either 1up, cycleops or jurt) and i was wondering if anyone has heard of issues with Carbon Frames on trainers. I used to ride my dual on a trainer, and i never got out of my seat, so i felt i was pretty steady on it. But, the carbon had me thinking what i should do. any suggestions?

No more of an issue than riding any other materialed frame on a trainer.

I have spent many "enjoyable" hours on the trainer, on my carbon bike, to no ill effects.

I have also wondered about this. The frame seems to flex around the crank and wondered if that was bad for it over a long period.

I don't think that will make a difference on a trainer, which holds the bike by the rear axle.  All the pressure is against the quick release, except for the roller on the tire.  So the tires will wear more quickly since so much heat gets generated, but as for the frame itself, the only issue is dripping sweat.  Which is a bigger problem for a steel bike I would think, and even then, only if you never wiped it off.

All frames flex as you pedal, on trainer of off.

Exactly.  And the flex is less the property of the material and more a matter of the design of the frame.
