How accurate is the route manager in the training log? Is it more or less accurate than driving the route in a car? I just need a garmin!

I tend to think that it is fairly accurate, especially if you take the time to zoom in and take care to keep your route inside the lines that define the road. But yeah, I'm hoping to get a garmin soon as well.

I use the route manager and find that it's fairly accurate, but as noted above, make sure you zoom in and stay inside the trail/road lines.

good luck!

I find it more reliable than my wife's Garmin.  That #*&! thing has my pace jumping from 9:20 to 6:05 to 8:15 over the course of a flat, even-effort 3-mile run.  A basic HRM and BT's Route Manager is all I need.

For a smoothing effect, set it to display "Lap Pace" then set the "AutoLap" function at a mile or even 1/2 mile.

Yes, we use AutoLap  - every mile.  Most runs it works fine.  However, it seems to go haywire whenever I'm most concerned about training pace; e.g. testing race pace or a set distance tempo run.  Of course, it worked perfectly for all 20 laps of my wife's 20-miler today.  She has the new 405 which seems to be much better than her old 301.

I find it is usually quite accurate however this morning I went for a ride and when I was finished my computer said 45.3km but when I mapped it out, it said it was only 44.3km.

BTW, cars in the US can have an odometer variance of up to 10% or so...

i tested my odometer distance for a 4 mile route and it's off by .03 miles from the Route Manager distance...

i'd hate to run that extra .18 miles in a marathon if that was the case!

good luck, bro!

For what its worth, when I wear my 405 on the bike, the distance is usually very close to what my cyclometer says. Instantaneous speed is worthless though when running (due to the accuracy of the GPS when you are going relatively slow). Overall distance, pace, average speed, etc. all seem to be very accurate.
