Subject: New to Toronto
Hello

I am new to Toronto (young/eglinton area) and looking for people to train with. Have taken a little hiatius from the site for the month (body needed a break) but ready to get back into it. Mostly worried about biking in the spring for I don't know the area too well, and have a horrible sense of direction, and I can't lie - the traffic scares the crap out of me. But have some goals for next season - so have to over come my fears. Would love some company- and lets face it misery loves company

Hi Halinka

Welcome to the hood.  We live at Avenue and Eglinton.  I'm doing Muskoka in Seotember so I'll be looking for training partners to bike with in the spring.  My sense is that the immediate area ain't great for rides.  I will probably head out to Caledon, Nobleton, Aurora, etc to do long rides. Let's keep in touch and do some rides when the snow melts... (if ever!)

Hey there,
I am from Toronto originally and just moved back yesterday from Costa Rica . I am doing Ironman CDA in June and am in desperate need to start training immediately! I dont know my way around either. Is there anyone who does group runs/rides/swims around here and wanting to train some longer distances with me?

A group in Markham (team Running Free) is stacked with athletes who range from GT to Ironman. Always worth a look into those guys.

There is the Toronto Triathlon Club too. They often bike and OWS outside of the city. Anything they do in the city i think is mostly danforth/beaches area. A guy at my DBF's work is heavily involved with the group but i've never met up with them but been on their website.

Hello there Torontonians! I am in the Don Mills and Eglinton area. I am planning on doing the Peterborough 1/2 and the Muskoka 70.3. I am not fast just consistent... and somehow, like you all became addicted to punishment. Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone had any pools they recommend for swimming that arent too crowded? Also, I was wondering about salt water pools, and where there are good ones also that arent too crowded.

Hi Morgan, I've just started working the Bloor St. JCC/Miles Nadal centre into my pool rotation. Salt water pool, always a lane for distance but $75 a month or $15 a visit so expensive. Also, can be as crowded as others. I try to go when all 3 lanes are open for distance.

I posted a thread a while ago looking for a good pool but didn't really get anything useful back. Perhaps no one wants to speak of their special slow pool locations.

I am also newish to Toronto.   I would be happy to find some bike and run people, I am in the Young and  Bloor part of town.   I am doing Ironman Florida 70.3 and Louisville this year so I need to get out as much as possible.  I have been  trying to check out the DVP park system and will let everyone know how it looks soon.   My bike is on my trainer at the moment but I will be getting it on the road soon.

Hey! welcome to the city!! :D There are lots and lots of options for training!

As for pools and such - that will mostly depend where in the city you will live! The Toronto Triathlon club swims in the East end. But i live near high park and many triathletes swim at the Swansea pool (I don't - i have a gym with a small pool across the street - much more convenient).

And for Tri shopping there's always Endurosport.

Right on. Thanks!

As for where I am going, I believe I will be staying at the Mariott hotel for a few weeks to a month and then looking for something more permanant close to the airport where my training will be.

So I think the hotel has a pool and I can run anywhere, not so struck on biking around there, well maybe the airport perimeter road would be cool! But I'll probaby head for the Bolton/Nobleton area for some good long rides and hills.

I am going to be busy with training but looking fwd to it. Any ideas on Sprint distance tri's in the area, I am trying to plan my first one!
