What the h#ll in the wide wide world of sports is this?  I saw it on the shelves at Wegmans today.  I didn't want to Google it for whatever reason.

I think I need to buy a few jars of this to give at holiday grabbags.

Imported product from England, and apparently quite popular, although I'm not sure I'd try it just because the name creeps me out.  It is essentially yellow sponge cake with raisins.

Water cooler talk at the office among the ladies, "You simply must try some of the Spotted Dick I had last night."

I just couldn't eat anything called "Spotted Dick," even if my British grandma made it.

Ahhh the Brits - my Grandma used to make spotted dick, you think that one sounds a little different? How about - bangers and mash, toad in the hole, buck's fizz, yahhh. I do have to say I have never had a British desert that I liked. They love pudding and thats just not my thing, but toad in the hole is one of my favs for breakfast!

Ethical Q: If you were on a desert island and had a can of Spotted D!ck or Potted Meat Food Product (they can't even legally call it food), which would you open first?

And how did THAT come to be "America's #1 choice"? I certainly didn't vote for it...

I am an Ex-pat...Spotted dick is quite delightful when served with custard ;-)

We have bizarrely named foods but Andrew Zimmerman's trips to parts of the USA have been an eye opener!

Yeah, there is gross food everywhere, even in America. Just depends on what your definition of "gross" is. Honestly, sponge cake (yum) doesn't sound the least bit disconcerting, regardless of the name.

Oddly enough, I was in Wegman's before Thanksgiving and saw it on the shelf - and I snickered cuz the name is funny But still sounds yummy.

I have had some fun with a container of "spotted dick" displayed in the centre of our pantry. If we have a party and someone goes in there to get something it usually stirs up some interest. I love the stuff with custard on it, I'm from England originally.

Potted meat...Only because my dad brought it with us when we went hiking and fishing as kids and we would eat it on saltines. It really isn't that bad.

Reminds me of a scene in King Ralph... That basically has the same gag.

I'm probably only one of the three or four people that actually went to see that movie.

Nope...but the idea of having them seperated from the body makes my stomach churn.
