I don't remeber there ever being a cent symbol on a typewriter or keyboard.

I don't remeber there ever being a cent symbol on a typewriter or keyboard.

It was always on typewriters (as far as I recall), but is missing from computer keyboards.  Why did they take it away?  Who decided this?  IBM?  I mean, who put them in charge of this decision.

Tell me about it!!  It makes no cents sense.

Wherever it went, the cent should follow

I don't know - in MS Word you have to do an Insert > Symbol

Use these:

¢ ¢ ¢   Alt + 0162

 The first is HTML code... the next is HTML #code. the last is for Windows insertion into a document...

Use these:

¢¢¢  Alt + 0162

 The first is HTML code... the next is HTML #code. the last is for Windows insertion into a document...

Bigger geek addendum:  The last one is actually holding down the Alt key while typing the digits from the numeric keypad, then let go.  Using the other digits not in the numeric keypad but above the letters doesn't work (at least the setup that I was using didn't).  The "plus" symbol isn't used.

It probably went the way of the Dvorak keyboard layout.

FYI (and the fun of it)

µ = Alt 0181
° = Alt 0176

I type them all the time at work.

For widows you can go..

<start>

< all programs>

<accesories>

 <system tools>

<character map>

It shows all the characters for the choosen font.  Hover over the character and you get the <alt> #### combo

Or double click on it, it will move down to the box at the bottom then you can choose <copy> to put it into clip board to paste someplace else.

 Do note, that you have choosen a character that may be different when a user on a different machine views it.  Not a problem for the "popular" characters but the wierd ones may have a different mapping.®

 There you go, my registered, copywritten advice!

I can't stand pennies.  Getting back $x.99 as change is my biggest pet peeve ever.

Gas prices must really tick you off then, computing out to 9/10 of a penny.

Whatever happened to the "bit"?

I use a typewriter [not the ancient hammer style] weekly for typing labels for the tabs on my folders for work. It's a handy machine to have around

You may replace the typewriter with a dymo.  Sort of like a hand-held vs a desk top.
