If you're one of those people that on a frequent basis says, "someone should do ...", get off your butt and be that someone.  You don't have to wait to be invited.

That is all.

Someone should put a stop to these PSA threads before they get out of hand.

100% agree!

We had an HOA meeting this week and every time someone said that I would recommend that they head up the committee.  I just got a look of shock 9 times out of 10.  I'm still waiting on the largest complainer about the 'lack of communication' to start the FaceBook page.

I'm not holding my breath.

HA! How timely. My MIL was telling me about how at her office she's expected to empty everyone's trash, empty the main trash, and put the 5-gallon water jug onto the water cooler when the one that's on there runs out. Nowhere in her job description or through any other communication is/was she required to do these things, so she stopped doing them a few weeks ago.

Then last week one of the guys in the office goes "Hey, the water jug is empty." The boss [from his office] goes "Really?" And that was that. NOBODY bothered to lift the frickin jug and change it out! An office full of perfectly capable young men expect my nearly 50 y/o mother-in-law to lift 40 lbs. of water onto the water cooler.

If it's not in her job discription and she is not expected to do it then I agree that she shouldn't have to.  But to say that she shouldn't because there are 'capable young men' around is just wrong.  It doesn't matter someone's sex/age/etc if it's their job, then they should be able to do it.

I actually got in trouble for this mentality in the Navy when I asked the women to do more work than the guys becuase they were new.  I didn't care that they were women (everyone is blue in the Navy), I cared they were new and that's the way it works.  Guess I didn't learn my lesson.

The "it's not my job" mentality is way too rampant in America today.  I see it all day everyday where I work too.  Why don't people understand if everybody does a little, then no one has to do it all?

While I agree with you [and with Marv for that matter], there is a back story regarding the laziness of her co-workers that I dare not get into on here, lest I be willing to type incessantly for the remainder of the day.

The short story is: she does do it all, and she asked for a meeting with the three owners of the company [all related to one another] to discuss what's expected of her and she basically got blown off. Nobody at the company wants to accept responsibility for anything, so the "it's not my job" mentality is rampant there. It's just not with my MIL [or, well, it wasn't for 5 years, but has become so in the past few weeks in response to the blatant laziness displayed by her co-workers].

Just thought I needed to defend my MIL a little bit! Carry on.
