Comments: This was my first half mary of the season, I wasn't really trained for it (and even less trained for the hills!), but went into it with a good attitude anyway. Was happy to be out there, enjoying the company of the weekend and being able to step up to a half marathon start line again. I didn't have much of a plan. Basically - stay conservative the first half of the course, manage the uphills so I didn't bust up, and completely cruise the downhills. And - I did exactly that. The 3 miles of down at the end were a BLAST. I passed SO MANY people who were putting the brakes on, afraid of letting gravity help them out. This is not something I understand. I love love LOVE the downhills like that! And actually - the last 5k of this race came very close to my best ever 5k time - THAT'S how downhill it was. In the end, I can't remember the last time I had so much fun racing. Mile signs kept popping up before I was even expecting them. The entire race just absolutely FLEW by. And if you'd like to read an "I-can't-believe-she-wrote-this-damn-much!" account of the race, visit my blog: http://www.intheballpark.net/2009/05/08/when-pigs-fly/ What would you do differently?: Maybe push just a tad harder in the beginning? But - that might have made the rest of the race less enjoyable... and I totally enjoyed this race. So - I suppose I wouldn't do anything differently. Post race Warm down: Walking through the water - medals - etcetera. GREAT post-race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Event comments: I don't have a bad thing to say about this race. Expo was awesome. Goody-bag had a ton of great stuff in it. Course was a lot of fun. Medals and post-race food was top-notch. Had a blueberry bagel around 4:30am while still trying to sleep some more. Up and out of the hotel by around 5:30 and moving towards the stadium where the race start was.
Sprinting to and from the port-potties at the last minute constituted my only warm-up to this race.
