Subject: Anyone going to be Bigfooting this year?

Hi Wisconsin gang....just checking to see if any of y'all will be doing Big Foot 4 weeks from today???

I am a little anxious, because it will be only my 2nd OLY ever...and I am hoping all the time I put in the pool training this season will help....

Anyone do it before?  Any tips?

Thanks peeps!

Wife and I did it last year as our first olympic. Good race, well done. Any advice? Have fun.

Swim is nice, relatively clean clear water. If you swim off the buoy line enough on the way back it's shallow enough to stand if you need to. Don't ask me how I know.

Bike isn't too hilly, unless apparently you're from Illlinois. Heard a lot of people complaining about the hills. We didn't think it was bad at all (I had my fastest bike pace of the year at this race).

Trail run at the end isn't bad save for a couple of hills.

Wife is talking about doing the sprint this year, if she does I may tag along and do the olympic.

Its a good race, well run.  I do it every year. You do have to go to packet pickup the night before, unless they have changed that this year. And no, the hills aren't bad, and the trail run is nice, and a bit challenging. Nothing too tough at all.

I did the sprint last year.  Only hill I can remember was the one right out of transition.  Rest seemed to be flat-ish.  Just pray it doesn't rain before, as they filled in muddy spots with lots of wood chips.  Ended up turning my ankle a couple of times because of it.  Other than that, great race.

I was signed up last year but my bike accident cancelled it. Luckily they allowed the transfer to this year so I'll be there with bells on.

I'm considering adding the Bigfoot, I've heard many good things about it.  I like that it's a longer swim than most of the sprints.

Not to hijack, but does this race usually fill up to capacity?

Thinking about signing up for the Oly again.  Did the Oly last year as my very first tri.  Yes, great SWAG, and a good race.  I am waiting to see how Cap View goes this weekend before I commit.

I'm signed up as well, and I'd be lying if the "free" gear  didn't persuade me some.  Hopefully I can meet some of you there.

I did the Olympic last year, great event, great course, great race altogether. Because of extreme rain last year they had to add a bit to the run, but I didn't think either the run or the ride were too crazy hilly by any means. The water was nice (fairly warm), clear, and a straight out and back. Short transition runs in grass (bring a foot rinse bucket cause last year they had recently mowed the grass). It was kind of cool running through or almost through people's camp sites. Good luck! Maybe see you there!

Excited like nauseated and want to puke excited? Then my hand is raised.

This is only my second OLY and I am not going to lie...I am nervous...mostly just about the swim.  I have issues sometimes on the run due to a bum stomach muscle, but that is mostly out of my control....but the swim, sometimes I worry that I am going to get panicky still...

I'll be the one in an orange top and white and orage skirt...don't know my number yet...hoping to meet some of you up there!

GOOD LUCK BT PEEPS!!

Thats right! I totally forgot about the freshly mowed grass. You can also just have an extra water bottle and spray your feet off...

Man this transition bag is stylin'!

The only thing it's missing is a dedicated spot for your wetsuit.

only if you want to advertise "someone elses" coaching! The last time they had a bag, it had the Big Foot Tri Info.

Weather looks pretty good for the race, just a bit windy! See those who are racing there!

This was my first OWS ever at Bigfoot on Sunday.  Please tell me the waves aren't always that big.  Also what's the best way to swim on that return leg of the sprint swim course?  Every time my hands came down I hit sand.  Should I have shortened my swim stroke a bit, or just grab the bottom?

I was jockstrapping, but yeah, those waves were crazy (rarely like that)

My dad did the sprint and got 2nd in his Age Group!  At least some awards stayed in WI.  lol

first time Ive "quoted" myself! I found out at the race, that I was one of the few that got my bag out of a box that was sent incorrectly. It was meant for VisionQuest Coaching!! They said if it "really bothers me" they can see if they have a "Big Foot one" and send it. How funny!

No, this was the first year with waves THAT big! Last year was pretty rough also, but the previous 4-5 years weren't bad at all. If you stay fairly close to the buoys on the return, you can swim the whole way. Well, I guess if you are tall, you will always hit ground, so if you really keep your elbows high and not fully extend you hand down...wow, Im not sure! Im only 5'4", so I swam the whole way, rather than walk and tire the quads fighting the water.
