Have no issues swimming in the rain; first hint of thunder/lighting I'm done.

I love swimming in the rain, especially when it's really pouring, something about the tranquility and the sound of the rain hitting the water... only thunder/lightning will stop me.

Make sure you have good sighting.  Rain is fine. Fog is bad.  Heavy rain with poor visibility is bad.  Thunder and lightning is bad.  Rain with wind stirring up white caps is manageable.  Better to have a swim buddy with you.

Another nice thing about swimming in the rain is that the pool is mostly empty because people stay away.

If it's open water I wouldn't.

If it's the lane pool then yes, it's super fun in the rain.

Swimming in the rain is preferable to swimming while it is snowing out.  You really need a swimcap when it is snowing, annoying to get snow in your ear when breathing.  Sighting will be more difficult so take that into account.

are we talking pool or OWS?

around here pools will close if it's raining so hard the guards can't see the water ... otherwise, go for it !

I believe it's "Singin' in the Rain" starring Gene Kelly. I'll echo others sentiments, never watch it during a thunderstorm.

I used to swim in lakes in the rain all the time (not so much anymore -- in the city, I can only swim in pools).  Never had a problem, and I actually really enjoyed it.  You're much more likely to have the water to yourself

Go for it.  Rain hitting the water while your ears are just below the surface makes the COOLEST sound!  Its one of those things that make life worth living.

Since I grew up swimming...

-Swimming in the rain...yup
-Swimming in a hail storm...yup
-Swimming in a snow storm...yup (ok the pool was heated)
-Swimming in thunder/lightening...NO go

Rain is fine to swim in...as is snow...hail tends to hurt at timesWink
