Subject: prescription sunglasses?

I'd love to get a pair of rudy's, but just thinking I can't afford them.  i thought about inserts for my current Rudy's but those are $75 just for the insert, then I have to pay for the lenses to be made...still steep I think!

Anyone have a pair for cheap? and cheap I mean <$200

Man, I am with you.

All I want is a lightweight pair of wraparound (or semi wraparound) glasses with a tight fit that has nose pieces (crooked nose).  Glasses that have at least a nod to style.  I am still looking.  I have a nice pair of Oakley's, but those were rather expensive and they are all metal.  Plus they are very dark and that's bad when it's starting to get dark and I'm riding my bike.

If anyone finds someone online who can make them, please post a link.

PS I can't wear contacts reliability due to allergies.  Last thing I want in the midst of a bike ride is to have eyes burning like heck.

I bought perscription Rudy's and i love them.  yes, they were expensive (~$300) but they are well worth it in my opinion.  This is my 4th year wearing them and the lenses have been very durable.  I'll probably use them one more year before upgrading.  Below is the link where I purchased mine.

My budget recommandation:  Bolle Parole

$30 prescription adapter (go-optic.com) + $50 sunglasses(nashbar) + whatever prescription lens you need.

Nope. I've tried the bolle inserts, the performance bike prescription options, and nothing worked for me that was cheap. Whether it was the fit, the weight, or the look, it just didn't work out for me. My sunglasses had to be functional for both the bike and run leg.

I ended up having to buy a name brand sports sunglasses, I personally picked a ray bans model that fit me well, and ended up going to lens crafters to get prescription lenses.

It cost me about $300 total but it was well worth it.

I bit the bullet and paid for the rudy's.  Glad I did.  They are well worth it on the long bike rides and my eyesight has gotten bad enough that I even wear them running now.  They are so comfortable that I really don't notice them.  Since it's gotten real hot and humid, I have had a bit of trouble with sweat in my eyes with them during runs.  A head band or visor would solve that problem.

Walmart has some that are $170 w/bifocals so for standard prescription lenses would be a bit less. Not quite as fancy but cheaper.

There is on on line place that does sports glasses much cheaper than most local places. Do a google search. They have nice ones that are about $70 more than the Walmart ones so I debating as I am afraid of getting them ruined or lost during a race.

Thanks so much for all the advice!  I have contacts...was told to not get the lasik since I have a growing cataract (yay!!  effects of being nearsighted my whole life).  I've been having some viral infections in my eyes due to wearing contacts and having allergies...I promised my eyes I'd get a pair of prescription rudys for them to wear when I'm on "contact restriction".

I think I just may save up for the Rudy prescription...but I also need another pair of regular ones too.  Geez!   I'm wondering though if I can just get "pop out" prescription amber lenses and then I can just get non-prescription shades.  Just trying to not buy TWO pairs.

I've got the perfect set up for you! I too wear glasses and have my whole life. I am new to tri.'s but I have always been an active outdoor person. Just before I got in to tri.'s I was a competitive motocross racer (2001 Texas state champ and 4th and 5th  at ponca nationals). I 've tried them all. From cheap to high dollar Oakleys. What I now wear has been the best by far! They are from the Wal-Mart eye glass place. What ever they call it. They have a fashionable style simalar to some of the Rudy's and on the insde of the frame they have a comfort foam padding. It is not noticeable from the out side and it keeps the sweat out of your eyes. 100 degree run is nothing to a 100 dgree endurance race when you have full gear on and a helmet. Never have I got sweat in my eyes w/ these. They also have small cushion inserts by the ears.

On the left arm they say (inside the arm) Liberty. on the right- Torque.

I always get complaments on them at work. And then they put them on.lol I'm blind as a bat.

The things look sweet. I wear every wear. The frame cost 45 dollars. I bought an extra pair a few months ago beacuse they had them on sale for $20

They are indestructable!

Just take them your prescription.

Hope that helps
