If the water is 80 degrees, is a sleeveless wetsuit going to get too hot? This event is non USAT and allows wetsuits regardless of water temps. I'd prefer to have a wetsuit for buoyancy.

Also, I know ppl have talked about feeling strangled/constricted by their suits. Is this pretty much a problem only with full suits?

80 is a bit warm for any suit. That's close to bath water temp. For a sprint you would probably be okay but that's going to get warm fast.

People tend to feel strangled and/or constricted when they have the wrong size suit on mostly.

80 would be toasty, even with sleeveless.  I think the constricted/strangled feeling typically happens when folks haven't done any or much swimming in their wetsuits before hand.  One of those "don't do anything new on race day." Do you have the opportunity to get in the water in the wetsuit before the race? A sprint isn't too long, so overheating may not happen---but really comes down to personal preference. Have you practiced taking off the suit? That can be a bear as well!

At 80 degrees, I wouldn't wear a wetsuit.  Its just too warm.

I felt constricted by my suit the first time I wore it, but I think that was a problem with me not pulling it up far enough, so it was a little tight around my neck.  Not a problem any more.
