Subject: Thin Socks for the Bike?
My wife wants to get thinner socks to wear while biking. Any suggestions on brands/styles?

I've seen people use socks that look like pantyhose or tights. I guess these are normally used in a shoe store when trying on shoes when you didn't bring socks.

I don't normally wear socks, my shoes have broken into my foot's shape very well, and the shoes are well ventilated. I also wash them very regularly.

Go to your local bike shop and see what they carry.  I'm a big fan of DeFeet socks, but they are not that thin.  And I rarely use them for cycling (in fact I rarely wear any socks on the bike at all).

I use socks on really long rides and have some Wigwam Ironman socks that are super thin and cut so low you can't see them above the shoe, which I prefer. I'm not sure of the style, but I bought them at a running store so I assume they are a running sock. Wright Sock also makes a super thin sock, it's double layer so it keeps your feet dry but is really light. I don't buy traditional cycling socks because they are always too thick and come up way too high on the ankle.

I use Defeet, but I also use the cheaper Nike low-cut coolmax socks.  The nike ones are thinner than the Defeet and have pretty good form to them.

Balega hidden dry socks are awesome for both biking and running.  They are thin which I really like.. I had to switch to a thinner sock when I got my Newtons and so far these work really well for me.  I don't like traditional cycling socks because my feet get too hot in them- I don't think they are as "dri fit" as they are advertsied.  Anyways, I get my balega socks from www.all3sports.com but I'm sure there's other places to buy them from.

Heck, I though all cycling socks were thin.  Thin enough that my running shoes dont' fit right when I wear my cycling socks.

I've got a few pair of sockguy ones.  Those are pretty standard, run of the mill socks.

I just bought a pack of pearl izumi ones, just as thin.  Made sure I was wearing them when I bought my new running shoes (had to go down 1/2 size)

+1 for Wright Socks

I wear for them running and biking (when needed)

they are uber thin and have 2 layers to them to stop friction areas and wick moisture

"Wigwam Ironman Triathlete" -- ultra-light, ultra-thin.

I wear these even on cold spring and fall rides. I never wear socks in summer or in races*, so these are the closest i can get to nothing.

*Unless they are especially cold early spring races.

I forgot to mention that http://www.sockgeek.com/will let you search for socks by thickness, style or brand. Great prices too.
