I can't seem to find a time limit for my race in Aug.

I'm assuming this means there is no time limit....

But - just in case, I wanted to get a feel of what other tri's (specifically sprint) have for their race limit.  Pace limits (X min/100 yards, X mph, X min/mile) would be preferable.

So, please share what you've encountered with the inexperienced!

Most sprints don't bother with one.

cool!  So I can take my little 4:00/100 yards into the tri and still finish????

(I know I can do the endurance, and I'm working on speed)

I need to get a sports bra and embroider "DFL > DNF" on the back....'cause all I want is to finish!

The real time limit in sprints is being able to finish before all the post-race food is gone. This is especially challenging in races that let the Clydesdales start in the first wave.

Good luck with your race!

No Time limit but if you are really worried Email the race director/organization and ask. I did that for my Oly because while I know I can do it easily, like you my speed is not there yet. I was told specifically no time limit and that they are out there till the last person crosses the finish line or gives up (did not happen) Luckily I was not the last person and I finished within the time goal I set for myself so no complaints from me! (plus there was still plenty of food left after all the sprint and other Oly athletes had gone through the line.)

There is one sprint in my area that officially has a time limit (just total time, not broken down into swim/bike/run) but I think that was done because they had a guy one year who took more than 4 hours to finish.  I happened to be a volunteer that year and didn't get to leave my station - the last water station on the run course - until almost 1 pm.  This was for a race that normally starts at 7 am.  Granted he was probably one of the last to get in the pool, but with only 300 racers he would still have started by about 8.

I know this is an unusual situation and it's the only sprint that I know of around here that has a time limit, but it wouldn't hurt to check with the RD just in case.

The Sprint I am doing this weekend has a 2 1/2 hour time limit

"

Cut-Off Time:

All participants must complete the race in under 2 hours - 30 minutes. Race officials reserve the right to pull a participant off the course if it appears as though that participant will not be able to complete the race in under 2 hours - 30 minutes

Most of the SPRINTS in the NCTS (north Carolina) seem to have this time limit.

the Sprint is 750m swim/17.5 mile Bike/5k run

I'm new to tri's, out of shape, and very slow.  I did my first and only (so far) sprint tri in May, and although I finished the whole thing "unofficially", I was for the record a DNF.  On the bike leg, I came in 15 minutes behind the next slowest participant (who did officially finish the race) and was met by a volunteer in transition who told me I could continue but would have to turn in my timing chip at that time.  (I'd emailed the RD prior to the race with no response, and when I asked the question at packet-pickup, I was told "Don't worry about it."  Very frustrating.)  Since then, I've noticed several sprints in the Maryland/Virginia/Delaware area that post cutoff times (some for individual legs and some for total finish time).  But from my experience, I wouldn't assume that having no posted cutoff times necessarily means there are no time limits.

it's a female-only race, so I should be OK with that :-p

The only thing I've found is that elites have to finish in 1:45.  I just e-mailed the coordinator asking for the rest of us non-elites :-p.  **hopes I have at least 3 hrs to finish...'cause I'm probably gonna be that slow**

that is a little short.  florida sprints are all:
400 yrds, 10mile bike, 5k run

they have 3 hr limit.

a top AGer will finish that sprint in about 1hr 15-20 min.  but i don't see how the slower people can meet the 2.5 hr limit.

Do IM-brand races have the same time limit from race to race or does it vary?

Not that I'm worried about it, you know. I'm just asking for a friend of mine.
