Do we know why?

I think:

Van De Walle - broken collarbone?
Gesink - broken wrist?

What about Rooijakkers?

(I can't believe Gesink kept riding with a broken wrist.... Ow!)

Gesink must have really lost the plot after his incident yesterday....

He was reallystruggling... hope it was a withdrawal and not a time cut thing!

The guy is tough. 80km with a broken wrist! Reports are that he couldn't even hold the doctor's car for attention. He had trouble steering and, more importantly, braking....

Tough guy - watch him next year!

Wow. Hadn't even thought about the impact on braking! (Good thing it wasn't a mountain stage....)

I hope Gesink heals quickly.  I was really looking forward to seeing this rising star put the hammer down in the mountains.

Joly became the fourth rider to pull out of the Tour de France when he abandoned on the seventh stage on Friday.

Joly got off his bike just before the peloton rode into Andorra, having gone over four climbs and ridden 175km of the mammoth 224km ride from Barcelona to Arcalis ski resort.

Belgium Jurgen Van de Walle, and Dutchmen Piet Rooijakkers and Robert Gesink have already been forced out of the gruelling race, although all three riders abandoned after crashing.

He didn't look too happy when he got back on the bike. I saw the Dr. attending to his mouth. Didn't realise it was that bad.

Quick Step must be so happy that they dumped Alan Davis for Tom Boonen......

This would have to be Boonen's worst TDF ever. I hope tha QuickStep management choke, just a little bit.

Gawd, I just saw it.....   you could see the sparks coming out from under his bike.  He went right down on the right side of his face...  just awful.
