Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree..even in middle of nowhere Alabama they have better radio stations |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Totally agree. I gave up on DC radio, have the iPod in the car and look forward to the days when I have to work in MD so I can get WRNR (103.1) on the commute. That station is awesome (old WHFS style, progressive/eclectic blend) but based in Graysonville. A good antenna can grab it occasionally for me in Alexandria, but usually need to be east of the Beltway. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do tell what WJFK has done? Recently I got the feeling they had a rather popular afternoon show... some guys I ride motorcycles with did a big ride down 95 to a spot in Fredericksburg related to the show. Otherwise I had heard Don had retired and Mike was doing a solo show with Buzz. I listened to them from way back when I was in Jr. High and they did the Morning Zoo on WAVA. I don't really listen to radio anymore, but WJFK was a station I really favored for many years... Howard in the morning, O&A and then Don & Mike was my favorite line up there. Anyway I have XM in all of my vehicles... buying a vehicle with it integrated is the easiest route. Otherwise you can buy an aftermarket radio with it built in. Or you can just buy a receiver and hook it into your present car radio one of two ways... best if your radio has a AUX jack or they have built in FM transmitters. Present FM transmitters are pretty weak though. Actually, sometimes there is a third way and it may include installing some sort of add-on device to give you an Aux input of sorts. Did that with my wife's RX-8. It really depends on your car's audio system. Anyway, I like satellite radio. Some decent talk radio, news stations, dedicated stations for music with little to no commercials or talking, etc. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have always liked the Junkies and even listened to the afternoon and evening shows. I am 33, so WHFS was a top priority when I use to get in the car. Then, that channel went bye bye. Now, sports radio, don't they have sports radio on AM 980 and those shows stink. Any show with Lavar Arrington will stink. Don and Mike show ended a little over a year ago. Don's wife was killed in a car accident, then I think he just lost the will to do radio. Eventually, he just retired/quit. Mike has been doing a decent show with Robb and Buzz. So, WJFK becomes sports and Mike O'meara has been showed the road. At least I have XM, but I can't find much good talk radio where they talk about nothing on there. I can't stand Stern anymore. Guess I will listen to NFL and ESPN. |

I listened to Don and Mike from Day 1 when they replaced the guys that were on WAVA before them (actually Charlie and Harrigan, why I remember that who knows...) Yeah I had the add on XM and it was a pain, wonder if the connectivity has gotten better. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() don't get me started on this. I've been listening to Mike O'meara since I was a kid waking up to the morning zoo on WAVA. |

I mean I thought that the ratings were good... BTW, same company that keeps flopping the better radio stations in the area. 99.1 was confusing.. Then 94.7 Now 106.7 changing formats.. uhh, weren't these stations already leading in the male demographic anyway? Or at least top 5. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() agree with all but i did hear that WHFS is back on but you need an HD radio to get the signal. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If you have an HD radio, then 94.7's "second" HD channel is pretty good. I think it is called HFS2. If you were around a long time ago, you might remember the HFStival's. I like the HD radio because of the extra channels. Some suck, some are great. Here is the list of HD channels in the DC area:

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() yupper. WAMU is all I ever listen to anymore, as far as local radio goes. I still flop through cds quite a bit, and I do have XM, but even thats got kind of old after a couple years now. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() so is it worth me getting xm/sirius? |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My husband and I have been about this since we met! WASHINGTON RADIO IS A SUCK-FEST!!!! I only listen to WAMU on regular radio around here, as well. I have a WRNR live stream button on my browser so that I can listen to it online. Those of you who like that might also check out Radio Paradise online. Then there is always WXPN out of Philly. XM is definitely a great alternative. And my husband's iphone will stream all of the "good" stations from other cities. We also have Radio Time on our computers so that we can record live streams from online broadcasts to then listen to later via ipod or whatever. Where there's a will, there's a way!!!! But WHY can't Washington manage to keep one decent station??????????????????? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() turtlegirl - 2009-07-16 10:36 PM so is it worth me getting xm/sirius? Well that depends... I like the music channels, the news channels, comedy channels, sports radio and others. They have some channels dedicated to artists.. E Street for Springsteen, Margarittaville for Buffet, etc. I used to listen to Stern, but for whatever reason don't care for his show now that he's on satellite. I believe you can sign up for an online stream that you can use for 7 days to see if you like the programming or not. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() its a bummer the big o and dukes show is getting the shaft. chad's new show sounds ok. we'll see. i never listen to any of it live anyway, i just download the podcasts and hear it all, fast forward what i don't want, and no commercials. radio is dead anyway and has been since i decided the rolling stones and kiss weren't the only bands i wanted to hear in about '82 or '83. generally speaking, "good" music has NEVER beeen played on the radio. you've always had to "find" it. |
