I'm not doing the event, but one of my training buddies is. We've swam Medical Lake in training this year. It's shallow and warm. I'd say wetsuit optional.

You're right, be ready for a hot run. Hydrate and have fun!

I did this event a couple of years ago so my memory might be hazy. :-)

The swim is nice, water is reasonably warm. Everyone wore wetsuits.

The bike goes through a lot of country side. It's not flat but it's not super hilly either. There are two or three major hills. The first is when you turn right off the highway about a third of the way through. The second is in the state park around a blind corner. The third is when you turn into town. There may be more but those are the ones I remember best.

The run is along the river. Mostly flat and at least part of it is shady. There is a section that is on the shoulder of a major road. That's in the sun and hot.

The day I did it, the temps were in the mid-90s. Hydrate often and well. It's a great event, well run, well supported and a lot of fun.

Good luck!

I just plan to race the bike leg on a team this year. Swam the lake and rode the course last weekend. The water is warm (low 70's if I had to guess), I did have on a suit and felt ok coming out of the water. Bike course is rural west plains of Spokane. Asphalt is generally good, 'rugbyruss' has referenced the notable hills, I concur. The last 2 hills come somewhere around and after mile 50 - to get your quads warmed up for the run! - post a race report, Good luck

I live 1/2 mile from the lake.......swam in it on Sunday (no wetsuit) and it's warm! Use your wetsuit for speed/bouyancy only, you won't need it for warmth. If you use your wetsuit, set aside a little extra hydration at T1 because you're gonna sweat pretty good during the swim.

Good luck!

Helluva weather forecast this weekend. Adjusting my expectations for the race now. Finishing without a trip to the Med tent will make it a successful race. Good luck out there!

yep, forecast just keeps getting hotter

little concerned about the running aid stations...every 2-2.5 miles in 95+ degree heat, doesn't seem like a good idea to me (esp for the 7-8 hour finishers)...

quick recap:
5th outta the water
hit the wall at the end of the bike (last 5-8 miles)
out of t2 in ~3:08, so needed a 1:52 to break 5
finished with a 4:56, 3rd AG
highlights of the course: orange slices and ice cold sponges on the run
