Subject: Award categories?

So this is definitely a newbie question, but what or who exactly are the "Masters" that get awards?  I did a sprint tri last weekend, I won my AG, but when I pulled up the results there was another woman in my AG who was much faster than me, she was also listed as #1, and she got a master's award?  I wouldn't have complained about a 2nd place award, but I am diggin' on the 1st place (my first!).  I have also seen awards for Pro and elite.  Who ARE these people?

Master is over 40 yo. Sometimes you'll see Grand Master, which is over 50.

Pro and elite are front of the pack categories for those who met the defined criteria.

Yes, Masters = > 40... So, the "Masters" award would go to the fastest individual over the age of 40, then that person would not be eligible for their Age Group division award (in other words, they don't get two awards, one for Masters and one for Age Group). It's sort of the same as overall winners not winning age group awards.... So, even though you and the overall Masters winner may have been in the same division, SHE is the MASTERS winner, and you are the Age Group winner. Make sense??

Aaaah, NOW I get it!  I think they actually must have had Masters AND Grand Masters since I'm in the 50-54 AG.  Thanks guys!

You were at the Waco Tri, right?  I'd never heard the "Grand Master" thing before.  Sounded kind of klan-ish to me...

That concept never made sense to me.  I actually felt really stupid at a du I did earlier this year - 2nd and 3rd overall were in my age group, and got overall awards.  That left me with 1st AG.  There were 2 people in my age group faster than me, I don't deserve 1st.  Why not just give them two?

Yes, I was at Waco... I heard and saw people come up for the Masters and Grandmasters awards, I guess I just didn't know what they were, and then when I got the official results and saw someone in my AG with a faster time than me, it just didn't make sense!  I guess I should be shooting for a Masters award!

Master is over 40 yo.

Indeed, I won my first Masters award 2 weeks ago at the Mountain Man Half. I actually finished 2nd overall, but the RD only gave awards to first overall and then went directly to AG awards. So I would have received 1st in M40-44, but no award for 2nd overall, which I was more proud of. But then I saw he had the Male Master overall trophy, so I got that and it's really nice.

I was thinking the same thing, they are still your age and still beat you. Its like at a car show if you win best of show it doesn't mean you are automatically ineligible from winning your make/mode/modification class.
