I was wondering if anyone has any experince with skin suits.  I'm doing IM Cozumel and it's not wetsuit legal..

I was thinking of something like:

WOW! It's not wetsuit legal? When I use to SCUBA dive in Cozumel, I wore a full 3mm wetsuit with a hoodie to dive it... AND I was still shivering.

Sorry, I'm not any help. I'm just shocked wetsuits are not legal.

You might not be the best gauge, Karen!  You get cold if it's <90.

No real help on the skin suit from me.

ditto to ms cold weather... I think it depends on the time of the year.. Ive dove there a few times without wetsuits and only a couple of times with suits.   plus it's a bit colder 80+ feet down

What is the reason you want to use the other suit for??  Speed.. Security?    Warmth??

I have a speed suit. It holds everything together nicely and really doen't add much to warmth.  Maybe a little.  I would recommend.

That's not a skin suit, that's just a thicker swim suit.  A skin suit is something you wear on the outside of your swimsuit to decrease drag and provide a bit of warmth and support but no buoyancy for nonwetsuit legal swims.

I love mine and will be using it at IM Louisville which is non-wetsuit legal.

You might try the Rocket Science skin suit.  It is long sleeve.  I believe it is not Fina legal as of July 1st but might be legal for IM.  Definitely look into before buying.  It probably would provide a little more warmth.  I have two skin suits and love them but at others have said they don't provide much warmth.

I wear sweatshirts year round!  Inside in the summer is the worst because people crank the AC to ridiculously COLD temps (72).  Then you go out and it's 10 degrees warmer then go back in and it fels like it's sub zero.

Around here, make that '30 degree warmer'.  Wink

To OP:  I hear they improve speed, and according to a video on this site, they provide some minimal buoyancy as well, at least according to how the testers felt, if I recall correctly.  But I can't imagine that you're going to want WARMTH at IMLou.  I think the river temps are generally pretty high that time of year.  If anything, we will be looking for ways to keep cool!
