I just signed up for my first triathlon. The Tri 2 Remember in Gainesville on Sept. 19th. There is obviously a wealth of information on this site. Just wanted to drop into the GA section to say hello. Also, any tips or words of encouragement would be welcomed!

Welcome to the addiction!  Good luck on the first one!  You will be grinning from ear to ear when you are done nothing like the first triathlon.

Hope you enjoy the sport as much as we do.

This is a great place to get your information and the Ga. boards are the best.

Steve.

Welcome!

Advice:

Get ready for the swim.  It is a real shock the first time you swim in a triathlon.  Sighting, staring into the murky water, and folks swimming into you.  Try and get in at least one open water swim (OWS) before your race.  This will help with sighting and the murky water.  On race day seed yourself accordingly before the swim.  There is a temptation to get near the front and on the inside, but that isn't very smart.  Avoid the tangle by starting on the outside or a few rows back.  Unless  you are a very strong swimmer and can sprint out in front you do not want to be up front.  You will have a faster and more enjoyable race if you can avoid the rough start.

Don't forget to have fun.  It's a blast!

Hi,

Welcome to a whole new life!  My advice is that as you cross the finish line on your first race look up, put your hands overhead and smile to the camera...Then you can put your picture on BT next to your name (see mine for example, a year and a half ago my very first finish line..)
