Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I posted this in the Michigan Forum, but after listening to the audio again, I think everyone here should hear it: Anti-bike segment on Detroit radio station WCSX. It was on the morning of August 5 on the Deminski and Doyle show. My favorite is how they are encouraging people to "Lob something at their (bicyclists) heads." http://greatermedia.cachefly.net/WCSX/DD/2009_08bicycliststhrowat.mp3
I simply cannot believe that you allow this on your airwaves. To encourage drivers to "Lob something at their (bicyclists) heads" is harassment. If ever someone assaults me while I'm riding, I will stop and call the police - you've passed me and I will make note of your license plate and vehicle description. You think that because you're in a car you own the road? Look up the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code - you'll see that bicyclists not only have the right to a lane, but all the same rules apply as if you are approaching another car!
Arrogant?? Really? Send them your opinion. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow ... nothing like organized assault. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow. Just Wow. Talk about arrogant - whoever that DJ is should make an on-air apology ... he's clearly got some deep-seeded issues himself, talking that negatively about people who are healthy and fit. Just Wow. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Now you know why I NEVER, EVER ride my bike on Michigan roads anyplace other than in a county park or metropark. I have an aversion to being 'thrown like an acorn', and I've been clipped by a mirror AND a trailer, and the roads are horrendous anyway. BTW, I'll drop them a line AND post this on that other board. |

I was thinking the exact same thing. Isn't this on the verge of "Inciting violence"? Even if they can claim it was in jest? |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would think that if someone was assaulted in this manner, and the defendent even mentioned the show...it would be enough to make them shut their stupid f'n mouths and say....ooops, we're sorry. we didn't mean it. Remember the woman who died because a radio show had them drink as much water as possible and them her cells exploded in her body from too much water? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just sent. As a CSX listener and long-time Detroiter, I’m done listening to your station, and will contact your sponsors to educate them on exactly how funny Deminski and Doyle think that hurting cyclists can be. I take immense exception to this segment, and can’t believe you allow this material to be broadcast. Encouraging ‘lobbing things’ at cyclists, ‘tossing them like an acorn’, ‘Going Grand Theft Auto’ are all thinly veiled ways of encouraging people to do these things, especially as said while laughing. And the disclaimers of ‘…not that we condone any of this…’, said slowly with intonation that every listener can tell is mocking is a weak way of covering your potential liability if someone actually did ‘…toss someone like an acorn’. A segment on cycling arrogance is fine – I get it – but crossed the line while joking about violence. I will copy you on the letters that I write directly to some very interested sponsors (ironically enough many of them are hospitals), including Beaumont Children’s Hospital, Detroit Medical Center, Medi-lodge, McDonalds Michigan, Direct Optical, and National Benefit Plans, as well as the President of Flagstar Bank, who is a neighbor and friend. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I sent a message saying that as a member of the media I can't understand them saying these things and that I'll be in Ann Arbor this weekend and it worries me that I may be injured because a listener things these guys are preaching gospel. And I linked them to several news stories about cyclists who were killed -- not the stories of when they were killed, but stories of how they were remembered, as fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and friends. I also am sending emails to their sponsors, especially Beaumont Hospitals, who hopefully will see the recklessness of these DJ's comments and drop their sponsorship. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() People get really brave when they're in a 2000 lbs vehicle and you're on a 20 lb bike. They're not nearly so brave when it's face to face. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I petition for both radio hosts to be given 5 days off, administrative leave if you will; no pay. Perhaps they need a refresher course on professionalism. I understand 1st Ammendment rights, but to encourage violence as a public figure is just plain wrong. I will also be contacting their show and station sponsors. Whomever finds the sponsor contact info, post it here for future reference please. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Unreal. I am constantly amazed at how little patience people have. If you can't wait 10 seconds for a safe time to pass a cyclist you have a problem. It's the same thing with people who get upset they have to wait at cross walks while people walk across. Be careful out there everyone. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow.. I used to be a HUGE D&D fan when they were on 97.1 pre- "The Ticket" days. The fact that they would say anything like this is rediculous and honestly fosters more division between cyclists and non-cyclists in a cit (metro area0 not very friendly to cyclists to begin with. Rick I agree 100% about not riding outside of a park. I question my rides on Hines Drive anymore. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() http://www.wcsx.com/advertisers/ Beaumont Hospitals is a sponsor: Colette Stimmell Director, Public Relations [email protected] 248-551-0740 Direct Optical: [email protected] Detroit Medical Center: http://www.dmc.org/ContactUs/presidentcontact.aspx McDonalds Michigan is one! http://www.mcdonalds.com/contact/contact_us.html A few others, but my guess is those are the biggies. Then again the small companies that support the program might be more apt to pull sponsorships than the big companies who probably face this a lot. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just emailed the station regarding my dislike of that segment and the general lack of knowledge, understanding, and common sense portrayed by their DJ's. I will also be sending some emails in to their sponsers, especially the hospitals whom, I am sure, will be happy that the station will be sending them so much more business in the form of inujured cyclists. The ignorance of some people... BTW, while I may live in Seattle I have family in Michigan that I visit occassionally and do bike there when in town. I checked the laws to make sure I was being legal but I have never checked the road costs/taxes for Michigan. Are the roads there covered mostly by property tax as it is in Washington or are they payed for solely through a gas tax/vehicle licensing etc...can anyone from Michigan enlighten me? |
