Subject: 2 a days (running training)

Is there any benefit to running a morning run and then follow up with an evening run the same day?  Will it help speed me in any way?  I know it would be good to get the miles under me, but is it worh the trouble?

Asking because I am switching modes and training for a duathlon soon.

Short answer - yes.

But one session should be completely in the recovery/easy range.  At most with some strides.  The other session will be your "quality" one.

In one of the plans I've used for marathon training it actually had doubles that were both recovery paced sessions.

I've been adding a 10 to 15 min moderate run following my morning tempo bike rides. Then going for a mid-distance 5-7 mile run (with some tempo/speed work) after work. This helps me get my mileage up and seems to be helping with the bike to run transition. My average pace also seems to be improving on all runs (from mid 8 min moderate training pace to high 7/low 8). I do this double once a week.
