I haven't seen any like that in the Challenge forum. I'll sticky your thread, and we'll see what kind of response there is though.

You can also ask in the Tri'ing for Weightloss forum.

If I go over my calorie intake for the day, can I simply purge my last meal and call it even?

So we have some interest, any idea how this will work? Should we post goals and keep updating the group on our progress? Can we have different goals (ie: On days I workout, i'll eat x calories, on days I don't, I'll eat y calories)?

I've never organized one before, just participated. Some have teams but we're a small enough group that shouldn't be necessary. Some track their progress on spreadsheets, others just use the forums to check in with each other. Any which way we do it, we need to all set goals and a timeframe for the challenge (one month, through the holidays, etc) and cheer each other on / give advise, etc. If we want to do a spreadsheet, does anyone have access to the google account I've seen used before? I don't really know how to set that all up

Personally I think I will make 2 goals - one for days I work out, one for days I don't. I meet with a nutritionist on Monday, so I'll check in Tuesday with my numbers.

I guess I will do the same over this weekend and come up with my goal & numbers by monday.  This is just what I need to really get with it.

It's a small enough group that you can just reply on the thread if you want. But if you want to track your progress over time, you could use a spreadsheet.

If you want to use a spreadsheet, here's what I recommend....

1) Go to Google
2) On the top right, click "Sign in"
Email: [email protected]
Password: challengeforum

3) On the top left, click "More" then click "Documents"

You can either upload a spreadsheet that you've written on your computer, or create one directly on Google.

To upload one that you've written:
Go to Documents, then
On the top left, click "Upload" and upload your spreadsheet.

To create one on Google:
Go to Documents, then click "New"

Thanks for the info D001. It might be easiest to keep everything here for now unless the group gets too big.

I met with the nutritionist, so my calorie goal will be 2000-2200 calories / day, ~50% carbs, ~25% fat, ~25% protein. I know I will struggle immensely with the ratios, I have trouble keeping my 60-20-20 ratio I had been striving for! Also, I tend to eat 1600-2000 now and I'm actually terrified of bumping my calories over 2000. I've been struggling all year to lose a few pounds I gained last year and my body fat % is much higher then I want, so this is counter-intuitive for me. I hate seeing 2000 calories on my log, nevermind anything higher! But she thinks my body has gone catabolic from lack of calories and that this will actually help me put on more muscle and lose weight. I hope she's right because I'm scared.

I plan to start Monday. Why doesn't everyone list their goals and we'll start checking in regularly with our progress / road blocks / etc.

OK. I guess my first challenge is to actually figure out my caloric needs.  I didn't get a chance over the weekend.   Starting on Monday sounds great to me.  I will try to post in the next few days.

Last night I sat down and figured out my caloric needs.   Its rough but I figure I can adjust as I go, if I need to.  I have been loosely following the Zone Diet all summer so now its time to dial it in.    My Caloric intake will be 1800 spread out over 5 meals per day. Percentages are 30% Protein 40% Carbs and 30% Fat.  Keeping  ratios will be challenging as I have never done it before.   The Zone actually wants me to do less calories but I am training hard for a cyclocross race in 6 weeks so I wanted to keep the calories kinda high.  I am eating for performance not necessarily weight loss.  Although I wouldn't mind shedding that fat weight!

I didn't even bother with body fat % because every time my husband helps me take it, I get a different number....a higher number, even after weeks and weeks of diet and training.   Very frustrating!  So I go by the mirror.

Erin..you said you were going to start on Monday which is Oct 12th.   Sounds perfect for me..  We'll go from the 12th to the 12th?

Great goals! The 12th to the 12th sounds perfect. How is your husband helping you with the body fat % (ie: what method are you using)?

I bought a digital fat caliper online.  I think he keeps pinching different amounts and he's not just getting the fat when he pinches.  I went from 21% to 23 % to 24 % to 25 %.  Thats after cutting out treats and junk and starting my tri training. So I gave up.  Last night I found out that my gym offers body fat analysis so I have appointment Wed to get it done.  I am excited to find out.  I have lost 10 pounds since May but I still have that belly roll.  I think its getting flatter.  Some days though it feels like I gained.

Great job on the 10 pounds weight loss! I know the gained feeling, especially being women we are so subject to water weight and bloating. As for the calipers, those are very accurate if the person who does them is trained well! Even at the gym 2 trainers can give you totally different results. My advise would be to find one trainer and go to that same person every time. It may not be exact, but the trainer should be consistent time to time so you'd be able to at least see if you are losing bf or not.

I started my plan today. I've already slipped twice - I missed a serving of grains at breakfast and a serving of protein at lunch. The grains I read the plan wrong, the protein I just forgot to pack an extra shake. Hopefully the rest of the day and then tomorrow will be better! I just need to get used to it. I am stuffed though, it's so much food! She sent me an alternative 1800 calorie plan if this is too much. I'll give it a few days before switching though as she thinks the 2000 is where I need to be.

Goal: 2000-2200 calories / day, ~50% carbs, ~25% fat, ~25% protein.

Monday's Actuals: 2087, 50.96% carbs, 25.57% fat, 23.46% protein.

Not bad for day 1! I forgot my lunchtime protein shake, so that will add some protein today. Then my hubby added extra oil to dinner, upping the fat %s. Even with those mistakes, not too shabby. However, I am stuffed! I felt like I did nothing but eat all day. As sick as I felt, I had to get on the trainer and burn some calories, otherwise I might have popped! I was supposed to eat some fruit with dinner and I just couldn't eat another thing. Crazy because I love fruit! My stomach is all bloated today, hopefully it will adjust in another day or 2.

Goal: 1800 calories    Carb 40%   Pro 30%   Fat 30%

Keeping to the percentages was challenging!   Not so bad for day 1:  Carb 38%  Pro 34%
Fat 28 %     Calories 1728.5

I do feel like all I did was eat! And I am behind 71.5 calories...UGH!  Now I know why I was in a constant state of overtraining this summer... I didn't eat enough calories.  I am trying to find a software that can keep track for me because I felt like all I did was eat and calculate!

I feel the exact same way, all I did was eat and now I wonder what I could have done this summer if I had eaten enough. I'm using BT to track right now. Not crazy about it, but it's one less place to log into. I've used sparkpeople and really like it. I've also heard of the daily plate but haven't tried it myself. I actually do best when using a physical book and handwriting, but I'm too lazy to add everything up every day, so I'm using BT for now.

Thanx for the info erin.  I'll be checking into the sites for logging today.   I did feel a little overtrained yesterday.   I'm training for a cyclocross race next month by riding 1 mile up a hill.  Big hill!!!I did that a couple of times over the weekend and  then I went spinning Mon night and by Tuesday I was slow and sluggish and unmotivated. Exactly how I felt this past summer.  I am going to keep to the 1800 calories for now because it is an increase from what I was doing but I am thinking I may have to go up a little bit more.  Time will tell.

Tuesdays actuals: 1916 calories Protein 28.45% Carb 48.89% Fat 22.66%    Missed my mark!
Feeling sluggish Tuesday so I had extra  calories. Its like force feeding.   Feeling a little better today but I am taking the day off from training and will be ready to hit those hills tomorrow!
Found  thedailyplate.com  really helps in figuring out percentages.
