Subject: RE: goal times for first tri?I recently asked a similar question, and someone mentioned to look at last years times in the tri I'm going to do. I found that the slowest person was just over 2 hours (sprint tri ), the fastest was just over 1 hour (!! ), but the MEAN time was 1:47:12. Considering my age and (lack of ) ability, I'm shooting for the 1:30-1:45 range.
I've learned that it will depend on numerous things. Is it a pool swim, or lake swim? How much wind? Hilly or flat bike/run? I know I tend to run my fastest in moderate temps; 60-75 degrees.
Check last year's results; they are probably posted on the web somewhere for you to look at. If you want to compete to finish, like I'm doing, then being faster than the slowest person will be a 'win'. If you want to be really competitive, you'll see what the top times are, and can plan and train accordingly.
