Hello all IT/HR experts.

In the US, what are the best online job search databases for IT work?? Is it Monster and Job Serve or are there other resources which are good for finding available IT work. Not necessarily area sepecific but if it helps to narrow down a location, we'll say Idaho/Wyoming.

Thanks!!!

I also recommend Dice.com. The other alternative, which I have used is to work with a recommended recruiter/headhunter.

I'd say go to the companies web site that you are interested in.. Sometime externals sites aren't updated as frequent..

More work on your part but I agree. But if I had to chose a site, I like cybercoders too.

LinkedIn (if you have a profile there) has a good jobs database as well.

Linkedin and Facebook!

Seriously!  The best chance of finding employment is through networking, not online classified postings.  If you're not in Linkedin - do it today!  Hit up your Facebook friends and colleagues to see what companies are hiring.  "Dude!  You would be perfect here and my boss is looking to grow the group."  That's the best way.  Having an "in" up front rather than going through HR resume-reading software will always get you farther.  Some of the resumes HR sends to me might have well be written in crayon.  You splatter enough acronyms, buzzwords and copy the job description text and "the system" will send it to me.  Meh!

Also, you do know that your resume should focus on one thing and one thing alone:  "Here's the FINANCIAL value I added to my previous employers."  NOT, "here's what I did or know how to do."  As an employer, I don't want to read, "I did this."  "I was in charge of that."  "I know this."  I want to read, "I saved the company $x because I did this."  "I reduced costs by $x by redesigning the process which cut down time by y."  "I saved $x in power consumption costs and reduced carbon emmissions by y by doing this."  (Green savings are a HUGE plus today!)

I never said it was easy to financially quantify the value you created, but you have to do it.  If you have to guess, than guess and say "approximately $x".  Really put some effort into this.  It makes all the difference in the world - so say the #1 experts in the country; Challenger, Grey & Christmas.  (Google them and you'll know who I'm talking about.  THEY KNOW!)

VALUE!  When presented with two resumes of qualified individuals who have the minimum skills, I'll interview the one who translates that into the greater value they bring to my department and my budget.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll be sure to check out dice and cybercoders and momo, yes I agree on going direct. I will pursue that avenue. Big dog thanks for your advice also. I've have been working on that but will make sure I've got some solid detail and $$ included.

Thanks guys!

I've always used dice. And for a slightly different perspective, it's widely known around here that submitting your resume to any of the DoD firms directly (even through their jobs databases) is a complete waste of time.

Personally, I have relationships with several recruiters that have known me (and that I've worked for/thru) for many years and they are the best way for me to get new contracts or jobs.

if you're searching for a job, best of luck!
