Subject: picking a new company car Ford Tarus base or Ford Fusion SEL
I am starting a new job on Feb 15th, one of the benefits is a company car.

I can pick between a Ford Tarus SE (base model) with a 6cyl, and a Ford Fusion SEL 4 cyl.

I have a family of 5 including myself. My boys are 10, 8, and 18 months. This vehicle would not serve as our "family car" for trips and such but could running to school and short trips like that.

I am leading toward the SEL as it has more options than the base tarus. I don't really worry about the 6cyl vs 4 cyl, I don't need the power just driving on the interstate and it will get better gas mileage anyway.

Anyone have any input? I think COJ is just the place to ask any life questions.

Does a base Taurus have ABS?  I used to sell GM and I know that on the base/fleet Impala ABS was an option.  That would be a big issue for me.

According to the brochure I have it does come with ABS on the base model.

I have not driven the new Tarus, but have spent time in a Fusion rental. It's a very nice car to drive and bigger then it seems.

Are you driving long distances for work?  I traveled for work around Minnesota and Wisconsin, so rides up to 5 hours, and learned a bigger car was more comfortable.  If you will be driving the car longer distances, i would recommend the Taurus.  I drove a Sable and even though it was a killer, socially speaking (I was 25!), it was a nice car for spending a lot of time in.  I got an Altima at the end and it wasn't as comfy.

Is it a 2009 or 2010 Taurus?  The 2010 is a redesign that is supposed to be a leap forward.

A Ford or a Ford?  No choice.

How long will you have the company car?  (3 years?

Take the family over to the local Ford dealer and put the carseat and booster seats in the back seat of the Fusion (if you can) and the Taurus.  Now pretend that your 10-year-old is your middle son and you'll have a 5-year-old and a 13-year-old back there with him.  Do they still fit?

This company car will never be the family car so we wouldn't have to cram 3 boys in the back. If I drove it with them one of them would be in the front seat.

We have a different family vehicle for when we are all going somewhere together or taking a long trip.
