Just got an email from Emilio about the T1 Water Rover wetsuit and the potential for it to be banned by the USAT. This is the first I've heard of a potential ban - does anyone have any legit information they can share.

I bought my T1 Water Rover in mid-January and absolutely love it. However, if it's going to be banned, then I will utilize one of the exchange options Emilio has outlined in his email to Rover owners. BTW - Emilio does it right - he gives current owners numerous exchange options and guarantees - definately earned my business again - all very fair.

In any case, I'm particularly concerned about IM Florida - that's my A race this year.

Please advise.

There was a dustup over on ST about this might want to check those threads. At any rate, I'd say Emilio is more tuned in to the rules than anyone else. Word is he's been in close contact with RDs etc over this, I'd take his word that you can't count on it being legal. I think there is one IM (Might be international) where it is not legal

That's the one. Obviously not USAT. But if a 10 mil is needed anywhere, I hear it's Taupo

From what I've heard the wetsuit will most likely onl be legal in the US. Most places outside the US have a 5mm limit. The ban in the US won't happen until September 1st at the earliest. If $620 is worth one season than I say go for it. I predict that this will be banned by 2011. The USAT rules make it legal, but the WTF seems to be pushing for a ban.

USAT will not ban the suit, they have no interest in adding rules they can not enforce.

WTC has asked or will ask for a ban from USAT on their races in the US. It is up to USAT to let WTC ban the suit. They make a few amendments for WTC already, not sure if this rule will fly.

Can anyone help me clarify the status of the Water Rover.  According to this article, and comments by Ironman's Steve Meckfessel http://www.slowtwitch.com/News/Ironman_is_wetsuit_legal_1207.html  the Water Rover may be banned in September or January 1st of 2011?

So basically, if I'm gathering all the facts together correctly, it's a roll of the dice whether this suit will be banned or not.  So if I take out a home equity loan and buy this suit (kidding ), it may only be legal for this year?  Correct???

Yes, its a roll of the dice and no onee really knows what will happen to the Water Rover.  I'd suggest that you call Emilio De Soto and aks him what he would do for you if you buy the WR and its banned.  I understood that he set up some kind of special guarentee for those who bought before a certain date but don't know if that applies.
