TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT RACING WEIGHT - who will join me...

Current weight 249:  Goal 225 by October 1st - that would be 16 weeks and 24 lbs...   Several members of my mentor group are at the same spot, so I figured why not start a thread for accountability and support!  Everyone welcome!  Post weight on Mondays...

My biggest hurdle - controlling intake - I must log my food intake so that I can lower my calories...

I am in.  I did not weigh in this morning, but will tomorrow (Tuesday) and report back.  I am right around 220lbs. My goal is 190 lbs by Sept. lots of work to do.  I also need to watch what I take in. Portion control is a major weakness for me and still trying to get it under control. I was 238lbs Jan 8th of this year and doing ok, but I have struggled a bit as of late.

I just started training for my 1st tri last week (Thurs). I did not workout on Sunday, but I did workout today.

Biked for 15 min for a warm up, and then a full body weight workout. Tuesday back in the pool. Swam for the 1st time in years on Sat and felt awesome, but was winded afer 1 lap. I did manage to do 8 laps with a couple breaks. This is going to be fun.

I am down for this. I weighed myself on the WII scale today. I am at 273 lbs and my goal weight is 225 ultimately but I am shooting for 250 by September. I am going to keep track of it on the WII to maintain consistency.

Three things for me to lose weight:

Daily caloric intake average 2100

Prepare food ahead of time

Eat out only twice a week

That should do it I think...

Weighed in this morning at 224 LBS. Up 2 pounds from last Thurs.  Not sure I understand this 2 lb gain.

I have swan twice, weight lifted twice, 25 min on a treadmill and only 15 on a stationary bike and 4 miles (with kids) on my bike outside since last Friday.

Do I need to ramp up the intesity or just plan old more cardio, running, biking, swimming??

Have been trying to watch my portion sizes and what I am eating and thought I was ok. I feel hungey all the time and trying to eat 6 times a day. 3 meals and 3 snacks.  Thinking on this, how many shakes does everyone drink in a day?

Thanks for any input.

Probably need more cardio to get the pounds to come off.  Looks like a total of about an hour for the week.  Also, what is the intensity of the workouts - calorie burning takes effort.  Have faith though, the 2lbs could just be water weight.  Focus on more cardio activity and keep watching those calories...  As far as shakes - and I assume you mean protein shakes - none for me - I get more than enough protein through my diet.  Usually those shakes are calorie monsters!

A good whey shake, one scoop, (EAS) is 120 calories and 23 grams of protein. They are great at work, when you get hungry, pretty low cal, stick with you for a while!

HUH, When I look at it like that, that isn't nearly enough.  Here I thought I was doing good. Both my swim sessions were 30 min each, but with that it is still only 2 hours.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

I might be up for this kinda challenge...ideally I want to drop about 12-15 more pounds by August. The problem is I'm hungry all the time, and if I don't eat when I'm hungry I get fatigued, distracted, moody. I tried logging my food for a few days to keep myself in check, but I couldn't seem to get below 2100-2500 calories without being hungry and having trouble sleeping...

Come on aboard!  I don't know your particulars, but maybe more, smaller meals and/or planned snacks between the big three (B, L, D) might help.  MY problem is if I don't plan it and have the right stuff available when the grumbly monster starts talking then I gravitate toward sweet, fatty snacks which have multiple times the calories of an apple or banana or something similar...

Can I join too?  I am currently 132 (as of Monday), having crept up from my low of 123, where I felt great.  I'd like to be 127 by my race July 10th, and then 123 by the end of the summer.  For me it's all about cutting the useless calories, and eating only until I'm full.

I'm traveling until this weekend- Bonefish grill tonight so hopefully I can find some nice healthy grilled fishie...

For those of you that are saying they are "still hungry" it may have a lot to do with what you are eating "when." What I mean is: you should eat foods that fill you up and are good for you first. In this way you will eat less of the less-healthy foods. So eat fruit and veggies first when you are hungry, skipping the fatty and sugary foods. I eat a banana, apple and grapes every day. I eat carrots, celery, cucumber, and a salad every day. I also eat low-fat pop-corn in the late afternoon to fill myself up.

Other things to do are eat slower, drink more water while you eat, and put oyu utensils down between bites. All of this will make you eat slower which will give your mind time to realize you are full and will aid digestion.

As to adding more cardio, I say "yes," but be careful how quickly you ramp up. Increasing too fast can lead to injury.

Great Info,  Thanks

I have been tracking my food intake the last two days. 1st day i was 1750 and yesterday, I don't know how I did I did it, but I was at 1500. I felt hungery when I went to bed, and thought I was going to be in rough shape in the morning. Well I am hungry, but not nearly as hungry as I thought I would be.

I haven't done a work out in two days either so I am feeling like a slacker. Need to get back out there.

Good luck to all.

Jeremy
