Subject: blisters/tearing on foot during runs
Hey everyone,

I get irritation on the medial surface of my foot every time I run. I used to get blisters, but now that I have been using body glide the irritated area stays flat but there is still friction on the site that causes it to slide the top few layers of skin and sometimes tear it.

I have tried different shoe styles (3 of them), body glide (fantastic, but see image below for most recent issue), bandaids (friction slides them off just like my skin), dry fit socks, and wearing two pairs of socks. Before I got body glide, out of desperation, I tried foot powder, lubricant (think sex), and deodorant (I told you I was desperate!). For the record, I don't recommend lubricant for this use! It softened my skin and caused more to get pulled off.

This time I only ran 4km and this happened. It goes without saying that I need some skin on my feet for successful runs... please help!

1. You're not wearing the right shoe (or size, perhaps, but on the arch like that, it's more likely just the wrong shoe, as opposed to size). You might also want to try a different sock (maybe a Wright sock with double layers).

2. Superglue. Superglue is wonderful for both the treatment of blister/hotspots, as well as for the prevention.

Yep, I used to get blisters there and haven't gotten them since I switched shoes.  I would finish runs with bloody socks.  It's no wonder I didn't like running then, that stuff is just no fun.

Aww I just bought new shoes... So new shoes are out of the question. I have shoes with stabilization for flat feet (new ones) and normal shoes that do some blistering but also resulted in a pulled tendon.

I'd try changing socks too.  Something is causing abnormal friction.  My favorite socks are either Smartwool or a pair of very smooth, thin socks from Lucy that they no longer make.  I have no idea what I'm going to do when they wear out (I have about 6 pairs of them that I rotate between).

I used to have the same problem tried everything, even duct tape on my feet.   Body glide doesn't do a thing.   Wright socks turned out to be my salvation.  Try the thin wool ones.  They are expensive but last forever.  The cotton ones don't work at all.  Its the only thing I will run in.

I suspect your shoes are not wide enough.

Also, try putting BodyGlide on the OUTSIDE of the sock, where the blisters form, AND on the INSIDE of the shoe, where the friction occurs.

Nice pics

Hmm... bodyglide saturation. Good idea! I will see if I can find the moleskin stuff you were talking about as well.

Oh I was thinking about the superglue idea. Just drop some superglue onto the area and let it dry before putting on socks? You can treat blisters with superglue? I need more info before I start supergluing this thing, but if you say it will help I might just try it.

When I say "different shoes", I don't mean going from neutral to support or MC... I mean a different brand/model.

Have you tried second skin?  I put it on for really long runs and it creates a flex covering for certain parts of your foot... it also helps them heal afterwards if blisters happen.
