Subject: Tracking Types of Biking
Hi guys.  I was looking at my graphs of volume, pace, etc. over the years.  My average bike speed has gone down, but I assume it's because I'm now mtn biking and doing cyclocross as well as road riding and I include them all in my bike training.  It would be cool if I could track them in their specific categories so I could see if I'm making progress.  I guess the other option would be to count mtn biking and CX as sports and only include road riding in bike training, but I'd rather not.

Know what I would like? To be able to differentiate between miles spent on the trainer and those spent on the road........but still have them BOTH in my cumulative bike totals.

Yes, that is what we need!  I know some people don't log indoor miles under biking, but I do and it would be nice to see the difference between outdoor and indoor.  Great idea!

It's not entirely what your asking for, but I log my trainer as equipment when I use it.  So I can track those miles separate.  It's not a perfect solution though.  I also do the same thing with running and the treadmill.  But, the reports (at least that I can tell) can't split the reports out by equipment so you are limited in what you can do with that information.  Perhaps a report enhancement to allow checking based on equipment?

Track it by equipment for now...as when we redo our reports next year, from where I see it breaking it out by 'equipment' (time/pace/distance) would be the most logical.

Definitely something I have asked for in the past and remain interested in!  I envisioned that there could be check boxes on the bike workouts that you could select if it was trainer or not (but mt bike would work the same too).

For now I do the equipment thing.  I have a piece of equipment called Trainer 2010.  When I ride the trainer I log that piece of equipment.  But it doesn't allow me to see the difference in pace between trainer and road, just how many miles were trainer.  I guess if it's telling you time and distance on the equipment you could extrapolate speed....but that's a lot of work!

If you want to branch out onto a different site, BikeJournal.com allows you to log your different bikes and assign each ride to one bike. You can also specify race vs training vs errand vs commute, etc. It automatically determines you overall average speed, and then using filters you can get the info for each bike and/or ride type. It will also tally the mileage on your tires, chain, etc.
