Subject: RE: Gateway Olympic Triathlon : Official Threadabake - 2011-03-16 9:52 AM Hi everyone - this will be my first Olympic distance race. What can any of you veterans tell me about this race --- sounds like it was very hot. Last year was my first Oly. I feel like I learned a lot. I stayed at the Super 8 and came in Friday night. I made the mistake of being too active on Saturday ( I ran the 10k course in the middle of the afternoon Saturday, after swimming for half an hour.) Swim: wave start last year: men, followed shortly by the women (a fair number of women passed me on the swim). If you don't open water swim much, definitely spend the time to work on your sighting. Bike: fairly flat for first several miles then some rolling hills. Last year there was a pretty steady headwind on the way back. Some volunteers on the route to keep you on track. (I learned that I should work on drinking more while on the bike.) Run: super flat out and back, one climb each way. no shade, so the run felt really hot. well supported with water/gatorade about every mile Last year, the winner was coming in as I was passing through T2. |
