Most Aero Non Aero Helmet

Extreme Veteran  1260    Miami |  Subject: Most Aero Non Aero HelmetI would like to get the opinion of BT’ers in regards to this subject. I want to get a new helmet to supplement the one I use for training and would like to find one that is as aerodynamic as possible without being an Aero Helmet. Any suggestions, opinions? |

Goal is to reduce your coefficient of drag and that depends on your body position so no one is best for everyone type answer. I'd say save your money on a second helmet, consider getting latex tubes for your tires to race on and even a wheel cover for your rear wheel both would probably give you much more gains than a second non aero helmet.

When you want to go aero, pop on the rain cover. One of our industry's leading aerodynamacists recently told me that everyone has an optimum aero helmet, but a taped up road helmet (or the option I described) is often more aero then the wrong aero helmet for a given rider and his/her position. scott |

I swear that I lost seconds (if not minutes) fighting with my old helmet that didn't really fit my head shape very well (and was even worse with a ponytail). It's not something that ever occurred to me until I started doing tri's. This year, I've got a new helmet that actually fits and I'm hoping it helps my transition times! |

I'm not looking for a second Helmet with the purpose to be more aerodynamic, or trying to be more aerodynamic per say. I want to get an additional helmet to have in the office for those days when i leave the road bike there that way i dont have to carry it with me to use it in the tri bike. That was my purpose with this post to see if someone had gone through this same process. I'm considering the Lazer Helium for which you can get a snap on cover to seal the holes for whenever you want to be aereo. If anyone else has other recomendations......... |
