I would say my race was 2 very different halves. first 13.1 miles in 1:57 so on schedule for a sub 4 as planned. Then I got near to your flat and started to really feel the heat. People were collapsing at 16 miles and I could feel I was getting too hot to carry on at that pace. Stopped to walk whilst I necked a bottle of water and then carried on but was cramping at 18 miles so the last 8 miles was a mix of run and walk to try and combat the cramped calves. Finally crossed the line in 4:21:24 vowing never again. I am in the ballot for next year !!! funny how time dulls the pain and I want to do it non-stop under 4 hours. More training required.
You can do it. It was kind of hot that day, if I recall.
My first marathon was Chicago '07 (when the guy died and about 500 went to the hospital and they shut down the race ) and I swore never again. Eight marathons and an ultra later, I'm still kickin' ... it gets easier the more you do. |
