So all this time I've been thinking Timothy Olyphant was the cat's meow but I have to say that Walton Goggins (Boyd Crowder) is running away with the show. His is definitely the most compelling character in the show and his acting is nothing short of superb.

Characters aside, the dialogue is fantastic.

Now the long wait for Season 3 ...

Best show on television IMO.  Great characters, character chemistry and story line.  You're absolutely right about Boyd Crowder's character.  I don't think he was supposed to be on the show this long because when I first started watching it, it showed he was only a character in four episodes.  Must have impressed somebody.  The Bennett Brothers (Dickie and the bigger one (forgot his name)) and their mother were impressive this season as well.  Looking forward to next season.

I watch Justified early in the mronings since I'm self employed and don't sleep much.

I was watching the season finale the other morning in a groggy state and what happened in the last few minutes made me sit bolt upright.  I did not see that coming.

Definitely one of my favorite shows on TV right now.

Totally agree..  I had a feeling that he would end up being the strongest character,   Just an overall great actor.   Even though the first couple of episodes I would for a moment think back to his prior character on "the Shield" but it didnt' last long.  IMHO he is one of the few actors with the ability to blend into his role so you don't really link him to prior shows   Now I see him and think "hey it's Boyd"

Did you watch The Shield? Walton Goggins was in that show as well. It's super good.

Nope, never watched it. This is the first time I've seen this actor. I love his hair!

I had to download this to see what all the fuss was about. Good stuff so far. I'm at episode 8 or 9. Boyd and Pops just got out of jail. I'm seeing some familiar faces from HBO shows. I can certainly see Elmore Leonards' hand in the show.

Thank God they let Boyd stop talking in that robotic monotone voice. That was getting annoying in 1 and 2. Raise your hand if you want to put Dicky in a burlap bag with a honey badger.

Justified is one of the best shows ever, right up there with The Wire. Both series show you criminals and cops in very approachable way, as regular people that just happen to be doing "that"for a living, a way that makes you believe the story line and get involved in their "lives".

Raise your hand if you're slightly freaked out about what exactly is going on with the dude that's tied up in the bed of the house in which the "guy from Detroit" has set up shop.

Yeah, looks like Quarles is the guy who gets top villain spot this season. MAybe it's just a kinky buddy of his and they're doing some intense "role playing" games.

Based on the "You can't paint over blood" conversation between Quarles and Wynn last episode, I'm thinking the "kinky buddy" hypothesis is right out.

Last two episodes got very interesting. Fun to watch the hillbillies conspire against each other, and against Detroit.

The dialogue does a great job of evoking a world I never want to visit.

Caught up on my viewing this weekend. To recap:

  • Who giggled when Quarrels reached for his severed arm and the marshal pulled it out of his reach?
  • I believe Boyd Crowder used at least 3 of his 9 lives just in the last 2 episodes.
  • Ava has been staring into the abyss. It appears the abyss is now staring back.
  • But the real kick in the head - Arlo shooting a lawman in a hat to save Boyd. Harsh. That kind of cold will mess you up 'right quick.'

I think it's time for Marshal Givens to leave that hell-hole.

"Every yime he tries to leave - they keep pulling him back in"

And yeah, the Arlo shooting was cold, but also understandable given Raylans treatment of him.

Elmore Leonard loves the show so much, he wrote another book last year to give the TV writers more ideas for upcoming seasons and he even used Olyphant for the cover.

Not in my world. Patricide, matricide, fratricide, sororicide, filicide - worst kind of self-inflicted curse.

Arlo's motivation wasn't just (very ironic) disappointment with his son. It's his lack of grace that allowed him to pull the trigger. I think it really speaks to the deadness that these characters have inside them. Speaking of the abyss ...

But it makes for a good Greek tragedy.

Do you think Raylan would've shot Arlo if he saw him take aim at his state trooper friend?  I do.

Raylan seemed pretty pleased to be the one arresting him.  Raylan wasnt upset that Arlo was going to jail, he was upset that Arlo was taking the fall for Boyd, for a different murder.

Arlo is an embarrassment for Raylan and he has voiced his contempt for Arlo time and time again - directly to Arlo and with threats as well.  Raylan wasnt upset when he found out that Arlo was just shooting a 'lawman in a hat' because I am sure Arlo thinks that Raylan would pull the trigger on him given the chance, and Raylan probably thinks, maybe even knows so too.
