Boardwalk Empire

I watched all of the first year.  I does get confusing on figuring out who is who.  Al Capone you recognize and some other gangster (their younger years)

I like how they incorporate the returning WWI vets into the show...

In season opener, watching Agent Nelson and his wife go to the restaurant and getting offer illegal booze was interesting....and then her putting the pressure on him...Brutal era.

I will continue to watch it.  Steve B as Knucky rocks.

agreed...great season and I didn't really see that coming (or the land deal at the very end!).

Agreed, I was not happy to see that ending. I have never trusted Margret either.

I thought the second to last episode was the interesting one... Where Jimmy is at Princeton and why he joined the Army and fought in WWI.  

Also interesting to see how his relationship with his mom got a little out of whack.  Having  Pizza together.

I never realized that his father was Dabney Colmen (only remember him from 9 to 5)

Great ending, didn't see it happening that way.   Thought Jimmy's buddy would show up.

Will there be a third season?

****Well SPOILER!!!!

So ya.. they were wrapping it up but I didn't get the clues. I thought his friend was going to show up too.  I really like his friend too, interesting character. I liked Jimmy and thought they were going to patch stuff up and then continue the tension with Jimmy and his partners to get something going.

And I like Steve Buscimi, and I like his character. Hard to get a handle on him and Steve plays it so well... but I was pretty blown away when he delivered his line before the last shot... I'm not looking for forgiveness.... Way to set up the next season!!!

I have not looked for confirmation... but they have a good story line and I'm sure it will run for a while. Very interesting with all the graft and prohibition and gangsters... especially with how it could all relate to present day. I'm in.

Who's watching?

Sort of slow so far. They pick up some time later. Seems just like a tease now... setting stuff up, but nothing serious. I thought with Nuckey offing Jimmy that it would be full throttle, but not so much.

I am watching, but now that Homeland and Dexter are on the same night, this show takes third place

The wife and I like the first season.

She gave up on the second season while I muddled through it.  I'm vested, so trying to do the third.

BUT, Dexter (which is our favorite of the drama series) and now trying to catch up on Homeland since I heard that's good.  Also trying to catch up on Strike Back with on demand.  A few epidodes in and I like it.

I kinda like the Gyp Rosetti guy.  Hard core brutal.  Scary guy.   (saw him in the movie Win Win, completely different)

Easily offended for sure. I actually like the actor in other stuff. But with hw hot headed he is, it's surprising he isn't dead yet.

One thing I'm not liking is Nuckey went all gangsta and shot Jimmie. Sucked, but that seemed to set the stage that he is all hard core now. But for the first 3 episodes we have to watch soft Nuckey again all "conflicted". It's a little annoying.

I still love the face guy, Richard. Great character.... so then I had to look. Jack Huston, grandson of John Houston. I liked his part this week.

I didn't know that about Jack Huston.    Reading other sites, did he kill Manny Horowitz because of the death of Jimmy? or was it for the killing of the two women (jimmys wife and friend).    So He might not know that Nucky actually killed Jimmy?

OK, I have rooted for my fair share of bad guys, but how can you have any affinity for this one? It's one thing to go after someone who sort of had it coming (I'm thinking of Tony Soprano vs Ralphie who REALLY had it coming) but that fat sherrif? The guy on the road with the flat tire help? Holy cow man, that's beyond total pyscho. 

I read a lot of reviews on the avclub, and this week's Boardwalk empire recap had a thought I agree with. The show is good because it blends the overarching plotlines with the subtleties of real dialogue. The small moments are what make it. Like for example, the way Tony diffuses Gyp to his face "this again?" or says to Margaret "a sentence which means it's opposite." It's snappy and smart, but not overwrought and contrived like everything Aaron Sorkin writes. (Yet I still watch.) 

Ya, he killed him because of the women. His take was that they were innocent. He told Nuckey Jimmie was a soldier... he faught, he lost. He had no beef with Nuckey because him and his wife always treated him well. It was my take that he knew Nuckey killed James.

Nucky asked him how many men he has killed and he answered 63. Nuckey asked him if he ever thought of the men he killed... Richard answered... you know the answer to that.

Good stuff. I really like him.

Well personally I wouldn't want to be around Gyp,  loose cannon.  say the wrong thing and get bashed in the head, and get your dog taken.. (did give the dog to some kid?)  Interesting person for the show.   

Guys like Gyp, Immigrants to America, still use to the old ways of Europe , don't know how to live and meld with the day to day life of America.  They take things to literal/offense?  And then strike out.

Like the old west.  Say my horse is ugly/slow and I draw down on you.  Somebody dies.

I'm interested in this era.  Just coming back from a horrific war.  What happened to all the people that were wounded and gassed.  Then to go into prohibition?  "what the f###, I can't have a beer?"  What an interesting era.

Nobody in this show is really nice and likeable.  They all have disgusting sides that are disgusting...Interesting yes.

Well, my wife is away a LOT for work, so I have more free time than I would want.  So B.E. fills a nitch.  I catch up on all my other shows, even going as low as watching Sons of Guns and American Guns (for the colorado connection) before watching Boardwalk.

It's ok.  I was actaully going through the motions in season two and feel like I'm invested too much to give up now.  But if I'm in a time pinch, it will be the first to go.

I think this season has been incredible!  The last couple of episodes were a bit slow, setting up the second half of the season, but I think it is one of the best shows on TV.  Last episode ended "with a bang" literally.

He has definitely taken a turn to the dark side. Of course, when your wife helps you kill the guy, you are half way there.

See, when Nuckey took out James, that isn't what I was expecting. The young take over the old, I figured Darmedy and Capone were going to run things.... then bam, Knuckey shoots him right in the face. That sucked, I liked James.

But here we are... only two things, young studs kills Knuckey, or he gets outsmarted by the vet. Who knows. Knuck has made some mistakes, but I do not really like Gypsy. Actually I do, and I really like the actor... but his is too ruthless, it does not seem right.

Curious if Knuck will pay Harrow a boat load to snipe him?

But, of course the scene is set... Knucky has no support, they all turned their back, he is dead man walking, the wife has new plans, business keeps running... seems too neat. Maybe he is out of lives...

I still realy like Harrow. It is such a good charactor. And his new girlfriend is really cool. Matter of fact, nothing really bothers her. We'll see.

Only 3 episodes left. 

Why do the insist on killing the characters I really like??? I really liked James Darmedy (sp.) and really didn't see is death coming. And now Schroeder. I really liked him too.  Although I was not sold on the whole two of them running away thing. Darn it.

And OK... the Gypsy has killed how many people now??? What like 6-7 for just saying the wrong thing... WHY does anyone say ANYTHING at all to him by now... you would think that would kind of be like day one training.... Just so you know... if you say ANYTHING to him, he will kill you. You would be number 4 this week.... Thanks for the heads up man.

I do like all the characters really. It's still a good show, my favorite at this point is Mr. Harrow... the face guy. I saw him unpacking his tools, perhaps he will be going to work.

Sorry to see Owen Slater leave the show in a box.   Not sure how Nucky survives this coming war.  Seems like everybody is deserting him (except for Chalky).

Gyp Rosetti is such a dislikeable person.  Brutal.
