I need a change! I have been with the same company for nine years. Nothing ever changes and I am bored. There is nothing else to learn here. I am tired of the commute and pretending to work is the most difficult thing I have ever done. When you have to be here, and there is nothing to do, faking it is your only option.

I don't know what to tell you- Im inthe same boat.  Not so happy with the job right now.  Here's my list:

What I like to do:

Socialize

Help others

Talk to people about ANYTHING- prefer to talk about working out, diet, tri training, etc.

Like to organize/plan/coordinate events

Variety

Enjoy outdoors

Flexible work schedule

Laid- back work enviroment.

What I don't like:

Monotony- I hate doing the SAME thing everyday- I think I have a short attention span becuase I get sick of things quick

Sitting at a desk, staring at a computer (unless it's BT)

Working with Type A people

Long, boring, meaningless meetings

Looking at lots of paperwork

Reveiwing lots of paperwork

Hate micro managing, politics, etc.

BTW gsulee- your post reminded me of the movie "Office Space"- lol!  Gotta love it!

Along with a business partner, I have my own business. There's just the two of us. I love it so far, a ton better than the decade I spent at the big company, and I don't think I was a miserable at the big company as you are at yours. The whole self-employed bit can be stressful when it's not going so well, but keeps things interesting, challenging, etc. and there's much less micro-managing! I'm not sure how plausible that is with your skillset, but you should consider it. My job isn't as flexible time-wise as some self-employed people manage, but if you're lucky, it can be great for family as well as training.

I have a red stapler on my desk and had to put my name on it so nobody would walk off with it- for real!  Ahh yes...tps reports.  I die everytime my boss has a piece of paper in his hand and asks me if I've gotten the new memo...

Let's all flee to the tri island and live happily ever after!  So I'm glad I'm not alone.  I think change is alway good- I don't like to get complacent.  I'm ready for a change, jsut need to take the plunge!

I am so in the same category. Our area is the process of being deactivated, so work projects are SLOW. Maybe we could all just switch badges and work in each others' place for a while just to get a change. My gig was fun when it was a$$holes and elbows all day but the major tests have been completed and the articles removed so now little stuff just trickles in and I am mostly bored. I don't think I have really done anything all week...oh wait I did organize the golf tournament I am running on Friday! Does that count?

You just need to start a company (freedom) where you can train (training) dogs (animals) in the woods (outside)  to run SAP (database). You'll learn (learning) that logically (logic) people (people) learn databases much easier than dogs.

I should really charge for this stuff.

Because you're not as smart as him- nobody is.  He's sooo smart that he knows how to convert a pair of running shorts into a speedo in just a matter of seconds... now that takes a man of intelligence.

I'm sure he would be willing to share his expertise and intricate method of transforming his running shorts into a speedo if you asked.  Just think...you could make work more exciting by wearing an outfit like his!

I work in a woodshop, and I ride my bike to work (just started this week, BTW, and love it), and I wear all my lovely spandex.  Let's just say I'm glad the rapport was there with "the guys" before I started commuting.  Any time anybody laughs, I just tell them to get used to it, 'cuz they're gonna see it more.

Take my naive opinion and it will tell you to start a career in ecology, or the study of the environment... taking measurements of populations, migration stuff etc. If you're really good, start your own consulting group.

Let me know when you guys figure this out.  I am about to hit 11 years at my company(very large corporation) and my life force is severely deminished.  It is like finger nails on a chalk board every time I sit in some meeting in some generic conference room, listening to generic business man/woman talk whlie I am day dreaming about getting a bike or a run in.  I may end it all if I have to continue to listen to phrases such as "we'll discuss this more offline" or "we need to steer the enterprise in this direction."  VOMIT!
