Buttercup 14334 | Subject: December Swim Challenge On December 1, I begin preparing for my first Olympic triathlon to be held April 30. This means I have to get back in the pool (kinda' stopped swimming Aug 1). I'm in the mood for a challenge. Something regional. Maybe the TampaBay Mafia vs the Colorado Clan vs the Carolina Anybody up for a widdle swim challenge? Name your terms. Would be nice to see a bunch of male heiney's in avatars during my birth month in January... |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge Terms, as in terms for the losers! Winners get bragging and crowing rights... losers gotta put up sumpin. Dare we throwdown a Speedo challenge again???? I think the swim distance goal attainment challenge worked well. Just gotta come up with terms for all the losers. Last time it was just Chicks v Boys. If we do regional teams, it's winning team takes all and all the other losers gotta... do what? |

Champion 5615 | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge I'll admit, this challenge has piqued my interest. Especially after today's "I don't wanna get in the pool" hissy-fit that my own body gave me which caused my brain to go into smackdown mode. It would certainly give me another reason to get wet besides "my training plan says I have to". But first I have to find out, what was the "speedo challenge"? shaun |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge For your smack-down reading pleasure: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16923&start=1 The Great Speedo Challenge was a swim challenge, boys v girls, in which the boys were spanked, spanked, spanked by the girls!! As lahoooooosers, the boys had to change their avatar to a pic of them in their Speedos - and had to leave that avatar up for a month (SOME guys WELCHED on their pledge). Ahhhhh the heady days of summer.... *sigh* It so happened that the girls spanked the boys in the run challenge too, same month. Fond memories, fond memories... Ok, this time, we're going to average the % of goal attained up to 100%. Anything over 100% will be thrown out. Who's in? I'm gonna voluntell my buddies in Tampa. Edited by Renee 2005-11-14 2:40 PM |

Champion 5615 | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge Wow. You guys are Hard Core. I read through just the 1st of *17* pages and could feel the hype. I'm definitely down on this one. Only thing is, it may be tough to find equal teams in different areas. You may need to establish minimum number of people to be a team. Otherwise, I'll call myself a team and hit 100% of goal to smoke everyone. |

I'm trying to concentrate on that half marathon thingie I"m doing in Feb...... I'm trying to figure out how my training programs overlap! Aren't you supposed to be doing the same, Renee? A little BT partay called Gasparilla? I will not post an avatar of myself in a swimsuit. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge Yeah, yeah, yeah, Christine, I'm in the Gasparilla ParTay and I'm not going to sacrifice my running by doing swimming too. I'm going to ease back into the pool but set goals and work towards them. Five months in the pool should be plenty of time to be up to speed in time for St. A's. |

I have been slacking on the pool work since it cooled off (i know most of you will say its not cool here but it's cool enough to make it perfect run/cycle weather). Tampa count me in. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: December Swim Challenge A swim challenge? Of COURSE I'm in. And I guess I'm still a Texan. However, unlike the last time where I could beat the crap out of my arms in the name of beating Chris (which I did soundly I might add!) this time I have a coach...who dictates how much I swim...so I might not be able to say how much I'm going to swim until I know how much he's gonna tell me to swim...is that okay? Can my pledge be I will swim all my assigned workouts? |

I get it. But if we were an all girls' team, I would agree that we wouldn't lose. But if we are having a regional competition, I don't want to leave it up to the guys on my team whether we win or lose. Southern boys don't like the water when it gets cold outside (you know, like 70 degrees). |

Southern boys don't like the water when it gets cold outside (you know, like 70 degrees). I hear ya, Shannon. You could create an all-girl regional team (or a virtual team) if you are worried about the boys' commitment - and, really, who could blame you? I need to work on the rules and terms. You've got a couple of weeks to solidify a team and determine your goals. For now, let's limit team size to 6 or 7. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: Rules & Terms December Swim Challenge December Swim Challenges Rules & Terms If your 2006 Calendar includes a Spring triathlon, now is the time to resume and/or kickstart your swim fitness training. Here are the rules/guidelines:
Calculating a winner will be done a little different than in the past. It will be a combination of % of team members who reached their goal + final percentage of aggregrate team goal attainment. In this way, both individual goal attainment and team effort both carry weight. It also levels the playing field (for teams with fewer team members). It will work like this:
As much as I enjoyed all the spanky-butt avatars after the girls whooped the boys in the Original Swim Challenge, this non-gender-specific challenge does not offer the same kind of enticements. Besides, we’ve already done that, we need to do something more clever, original,
Feel free to contribute your ideas on the avatar and signature line homage. Feel free to contribute some smack talk, too. Really. The ultimate goal is for you to meet your goal. That’s what it’s all about. That, and a little smack talking. Have a cookie? |

Jen, you could try Joel - TH3RB or something like that. He lives in Virginia. Be warned - he captained the boys team (the boys team that lost to the girls team - that boys team). He might still feel a little fragile about it. Edited by Renee 2005-11-15 10:59 AM |
