Weekly BT Therapy Session- Company Christmas Party

The Original  7834      Raleigh/Durham |  Subject: Weekly BT Therapy Session- Company Christmas PartyMy company Christmas Party is 3 weeks away and I don't have a date. I really don't want to go alone, although there might be a few others (maybe 2 other younger ones going solo but I don't know them THAT well). I have guy friends and know guys who would come with me, but I don't want to ask them just to have someone. I want to go with someone who will be comfortable in that type of environment and will be lots of fun. I haven't really met anyone who would be a ton of fun to hang with the night. I am wondering if I should go- I'm not dying to go and won't feel left out if I don't go. What do ya'll think? |

Depending on your company, it could be a serious breach or a minor breach. In some companies, not attending corporate festivities can be a career-limiting-move. Aside from that, I think you'd be robbing yourself of a chance to enjoy niceties with folks with whom you spend most of your time. Go. |

The real question is "would it be a good idea to go?" To socialize with your boss and/or the higher-ups, etc.? Although it sounds like it would not limit your career to miss the event (but be REALLY sure on this one--the party may be more important than you think. Is there someone trustworthy at the office you can ask?), would it help your career to attend? Bill |

Janelle, I, unfortunately, work with a bunch of crude and crass people (with the exception of 2 or 3 people). I do not socialize with them, as a general rule. However, every year I attend our holiday festivities with a smile on my face; I am gracious and friendly. I do it because it makes my boss happy. It wouldn't hurt my earnings potential or my standing in the company if I did not attend, but it would send a signal that I can't get be social for the most festive of occassions. What would it say about you if you did not attend, yet again? |
