Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So this organization is coming off of a "successful" campaign boycotting Ford for advertising in gay-centered publications. Ford subsequently caved and pulled their advertising. Who cares who anybody sells to. I mean, why does a so-called Chistian organization care about marketing? And now, they are boycotting Target for not using "Merry Christmas" in their advertising. So this is a Chistian organization that is advocating the use of Christmas in advertising. Or, succinctly, they are calling for the commercialization of Chistmas. Charlie Brown would be very sad. |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, you know, Leviticus says laying down with another man is bad. But it also says how to treat your slaves, and how long you have to stay inside when you're on your period. So I'm sure Rev. Dodson treats his slaves very well, and that he shelters his bleeding wife and daughters appropriately. Opus - 2005-12-08 12:43 PMYou should start a group called "Focus on Theocracy". Giver![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So speaking of Leviticus, and how it always used as the explanation for the wrongness of homosexuality, anyone remember Dr. Laura? She frequently cited that chapter in her gaybashing, and there was this famous "Letter to Dr. Laura" in response to it. She never answered it, that I know of, and I've never gotten a good explanation from Christians that use Leviticus to bash gays, as to how they feel about the rest of the chapter. Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. Your adoring fan, Homer Simpson-Caldwell |

Giver![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Seriously, one of the many reasons I love BT is that opposing opinions on controversial subjects are always discussed both candidly and respectfully. I've participated in lots and lots of these threads and rarely if ever (I can think of one example) do people attack others based on their views. And it's not that I like controversy so much, it's that I like good discussions and learning about other points of view. runnergirl29 - 2005-12-08 1:06 PM run4yrlif - 2005-12-08 2:03 PM C'mon Janelle...opposing opinions are always welcome... runnergirl29 - 2005-12-08 1:02 PM Stay away runnergirl29! * biting lip...trying not to speak...likes Dr. James Dobson...leaves the thread * Nope- not gonna do it. Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't know much about Dobson and Focus On The Family, but really don't see a problem with a group choosing to boycot a company because the group doesn't like how the company spends its ad dollars. I dare say the anti-gun groups would probably encourage their members to boycot Ford if Ford advertised in gun-centered publications. Bill |

Buttercup![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's going to be okay. This too shall pass. The pendulum always swings back. Americans are, by and large, a fair nation of people. If you feel obliged to retort with a list of our various and sundry sins, knock yourself out. Everyone has access to the soapbox here. I know we aren't a perfect society but I do believe that most Americans are fair-minded and moderate, wanting to be left to their own mostly legal devices and willing to leave their neighbors to theirs. The fringe righties don't worry me. It's good that they express their bigotry openly and loudly so that we can all see them for what they are. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Basically it's a way to get into the news and get your groups name out there. More press means you will get more people to join your group, which means you make more money. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dobson is the one thing in this entire forum that will get me to speak.....CAN'T STAND HIM. His views of women are atrocious.... not knowing anything about him a few years ago, a friend loaned me a book of his about kids. He's a pediatrician, I figure he knows what he's talking about. The HUGE appendix of this book ABOUT KIDS goes on a rant about a woman's place and lists what they should do for their man, and basically how women shouldn't work b/c their place is at home taking care of the husband (proclaimed the head of the household in no uncertain terms) etc. It's very insulting. And I don't want to hear any crap from the men about how that part is great. I also do NOT understand when religions/religious people exclude other people.....are we not to love one another and take care of each other, instead of attacking? This is a big can of worms (at least in my brain), and I'll probably go nuts and this thread will get yanked. run4yrlif, I am SO with you on this on. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It gets way worse than this thread has even touched. Last week a former student of mine was killed in Iraq. There is a church group coming to protest the funeral to promote anti-gay beliefs. I don't understand how this relates to the death of an American Hero, but for more information see the attached link.

You have to understand though, his beliefs are coming straight from the Bible- literally. So naturally if you take the Bible like a grain of salt then you aren't going to agree with Dr. Dobson. If you do, then you'll think Dr. Dobson is the best thing eveer! The part about women taking care of the husband is in Proverbs 31. It's one of the characteristics that make a Proverbs 31 woman and in my church, a lot of women strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman. Alot of men I know are looking for a wife with those charactertistics. But then again, some women/guys don't want that. |
