Pre-race routine:

Caught the bus from the Tropicana to Freemont Street, got a lot of strange looks from the drunks staggering in at 6 am.
Event warmup:

Walked the Freemont Street Experience, took some pictures, visited the porta potties in the casinos several times.
Run
  • 29m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Supposed to be a slow-paced jogged so as to not wear out for the marathon the following day. Probably went a little faster than that. Was a little warm in the velour Santa suit, wonder if I can get one in CoolMax.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was great fun, and I don't run 5Ks for time anyway.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a few minutes until Angel finished, then we walked to the bus stop for the ride back down the strip.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Common sense and a Santa suit.

Event comments:

This was all for fun. Opportunity Village is a Las Vegas-based, not-for-profit agency that serves people with intellectual disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. This was a fundraiser for that organization, and an attempt to break the record for “the Largest Santa Gathering” in the Guiness Book of World Records set last year by district Dial-A-Ride in Newton, UK. The current record is 4,260 and they hoped to double that number. As part of that attempt, your registration fee included a brand new 5-piece Santa Suit.

Not sure if they broke the record or not, still trying to find out, will let you know if I hear. Edit: Final total was only 2600, but they're going to try again next year, again the day before the marathon.

ROTFLMAO!!

How fun bear, or Santa bear and Mrs Santa bear! Hope they broke the record, such a good cause. Glad you two made the most out of your Vegas trip.

Wow! Someone read my race report! (Haley doesn't count, I made her read it.)

Yeah, Bob, it was a blast. The pictures don't really capture the number of Santas they had out there.

Yes, which forced me to run faster than I intended. So what's your point?

It obviously forced you to run faster than you intended because you overcompensated for it.

Grasping at straws, totally devoid of wit. Quit smoking that yellow crack.
