Pre-race routine:

Up early (thanks to the kids) eat bkfast, get int he car and go!
Event warmup:

Sit in the car by the heater. Jog a little. It was seriously cold and snowy!
Run

Comments:

Staying warm was more like it! I probably could have gone out just a touch slower, but wanted to be in the big front pack. I couldn't get there anyway... But I did stay at a pretty good pace overall. Th orthodics were great for form and feel, but I got matching blisters in my ARCH from them. Not a good blister spot. Luckily it was cold enough that I could hardly feel my feet and hands anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Go out a little easier, then push a little sooner (only considering I had to slow up a bit on that last slippery, concrete (I also started feeling a little bit of knee and ankle pain on the concrete. )
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

My trans was fast because there was only a helmet to put on and shoes. but I was definately tentative walking with and mounting my bike in that snow...
What would you do differently?:

Not much.

Comments:

I was so cold that I pretty much HAD to go all out here. My first race with aerobars and it went well. I did have to come up into my drops for a few spots with the snow and ice. I was nervous at first and thought that I should have had my MT bike, but thank GOD I didn't do that. I at least got it over quickly on my road bike!
What would you do differently?:

wear something more wind proof over my ears. Wear my ipod.

Post race
Warm down:

Eat muffin, drink hot chocolate and jog to car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the weather.

Event comments:

It was too cold to really stick around aferwards and see the official results and enjoy the "post race." but my hubby swears that I was the first female across the finish line. We'll see when the race results come out. BBBRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Course: Snowy. The first mile flat on a road, then turn onto a gravel trail about 1.5 miles in. That was good, better footing. a few rolling hills on that trail. Last mile or so on concrete sidewalk. Slippery and not fun when I was finally warmed up and ready to run faster, I couldn't. Oh well :)

Congrats on first and a great race. The conditions on the bike sound scary and your first time on the aerobars, wow!

Congrats on taking the tape!!! Thats pretty brave to do your 1st race in aerobars in those conditions but it sounds like you made the right choice. Too bad we didn't get to meet - maybe at the next one.
