At present, I am listening to Joy Division. Good stuff.

Today I added some Hothouse Flowers, Black Crowes, Black Sorrows, Big Audio Dynamite, Hoodoo Gurus, Nellie McKay, Stone Temple Pilots, and Verve to my nano.

Old stuff but I dig it.

I heard MAtisyahu on XM and liked him and downloaded his album. Listened to it for about a month then while flipping channels I saw a clip of a Hasidic man singing. I went back and was shocked to see it was him. I like him a lot.

Heard about the rapping hassidic guy on NPR, it was interesting.

I've been listening to a lot of Billy Bragg (think Bob Dylan with a better voice and a bit more blues)
Songs: Ohia
Latterman

Lately I've been on a live album kick:

Annie DiFranco - Living In Clip
Bonnie Raitt - Road Tested
Rush - Different Stages
Indigo Girls - 1200 Curfews
Chris Smither - Live As I'll Ever Be

The Creem reunion concert is next on the list.

At present, I am listening to Joy Division. Good stuff.

Saw you were looking for New Order recommendations, was wondering if you had/were going to make the leap backward to Joy Division. Closer is a classic (extremely somber) album, as is Substance. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a great song; it's been covered so much, so well,  that I want to make a CD of just cover versions.

I have "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - my only Joy Division tune. GREAT song, I agree. Do you have more? You know... I might have Joy Division on an LP, or my ex might.

Listening to "Bizare Love Triangle" now - now I remember why I haven't listened to this for almost 6 years. Exhubby and I used to go dancing and this was our song. Makes me just a tad melancholy.

Update: Temptation is having the same effect.

Good stuff. LOVE New Order!!!

I've got a bunch of joy division stuff. And new order too.

What's fun is listening to all the joy division stuff that's been covered and then going back to the original.

Dead Souls - covered by NIN in "The Crow"
New Dawn Fades - covered by Moby in "Heat"
Blue Monday - covered by everybody

Transmission (jd), Crystal (no), 60 Miles an Hour (no) are some of my favorites.

i love just about everything, but since i just got a nano and a gift certificate to itunes, i have some new tunes i'm in love with. some are old loves, some are new. all are going on the nano. i haven't been running in forever, but i'm getting a new group of songs together for my first post-slugdom run. the stars of the show: franz ferdinand, the cure, moby, tlc, mo' horizons, mary j. blige, beck, sirius mo, bic runga, coldplay, sting, mark farina, dj cam, and prince. over 50 songs on the list now - 3+ hours worth - but i'm thinning it down a little.

in general, i'm a huge fan of bjork, the sugarcubes, the clash, digable planets, tribe called quest, guru, django reinhardt, ella fitzgerald, the shins, bela fleck, taj mahal, everything but the girl, massive attack, tricky, portishead, stan getz, frank, dean, nina simone, no doubt, skatalites, etc. etc. etc.

I have yet to really change my mix of Rob Zombie, KMFDM, Marilyn Manson, Prodigy, Ministry, NIN, Pantera etc. Boring to have the same stuff on all the time, but dammit, it works for me.

I hate to sound like an old lady but I stole some Green Day from my son and I love running to it.  It gets me fired up and most of their songs have a beat that works with my pace.  The rest of the music on my nano is a mix of stuff (Duran Duran, Springsteen, Coldplay, REM, Keane...) and a few songs for my daughter to listen to (Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney).

I've kinda moved on musically (and Trent Reznor has not), but I have a bizarrely complete collection of really out-of-of-the-way NIN singles and remixes and such.

Do you have . . .

"Down in it" Single (3 versions, Halo One)
The "Head Like a Hole" 10 track Maxi-Single? (Halo Three)
The "Sin" single with "Get Down Make Love"? (Halo Four)
"Fixed", the re-mixed "Broken" (Halo Six)
"Further Down the Spiral" the re-mixed "Downward Spiral"? (Halo Ten)
"Rusty Nails" the UNAUTHORIZED re-mix? (NO HALO!)
"Closer to God" single? (No Halo)
"The Perfect Drug" versions? (Halo Eleven, LOVE that song)
"Dead Souls" from "The Crow"?
"Supernaut"?
"Victory" the Puff Daddy song re-mixed by Trent?

And there's a couple of over things, like the Quake II soundtrack, and the "Disturbed" interview disc, and a couple of other things . . .

I listen to some cheesy, cheesy music when I'm running, but it pumps me up.

My absolutely favorite to listen to when I'm running is Cake - The Distance. Especially the line - "and long ago somebody left with the cup....he's going the distance, he's going for speed"

Also like -

  • Limp Biskit (sp?)
  • Eminem
  • Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby
  • Usher - Yeah - always good to hear
  • Outkast - I like the way you Move - esp. during spinning classes
  • Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus
  • Nickelback - Figured You Out
  • Nelly - Hot in Here

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'll think of more. I have recently discovered that I enjoy running to house (type of techno) music. I'll have to hit my friend up for some of that.

I love cheesy music when I run. I have an MP3 player so I have no playlist, just what is on it. I have it spaced out where there there are certain types of songs are grouped together. My favorite is to put it on random so that a cory morrow song will be followed by Oingo Boingo "It's a dead man's party" followed by "Push it to the limit" from the Scarface soundtrack. I always like to finish with the training theme from Rocky 4 when he is training in russia. It never fails to get me going and i am sprinting by the end of it. It must be my hatred of Communism. I just listened to Rusty Cage by Soundgarden for the first time in awhile. That has got to be one of the best tunes ever. The tempo change halfway through the song makes me go crazy!
