Subject: 1,000th post - going for a recordI'd like to declare, with my 1,000th post, that I'm going for an all time BT record. I don't know if anyone knows what the current record is, but I'm going to set it so we all know from now on. Many of you may have noticed that although I post frequently, I rarely give specific training or event advice. That's because I have not even done my first tri yet. Last July I began trying to get in shape. First run, ever, was 1 mile @ 20 minutes. I thought I was going to die. A short time later my life was changed forever by my diagnosis (mentioned ad nauseum here, sorry) with Celiac disease (shout out to my fellow Celiacs-you know who you are) and it really made me aware of my own mortality. I've been a fan of tris and Ironman since watching them on tv in the early 80's. I decided to finally do a triathlon. August of last year I went to watch one that was held a half hour from home (Lake Zurich Tri - Olympic) and I was so amazed at the scene, the energy, the athletes, the fun, the intensity that I decided right then and there I was doing it. I told myself I would train for a year and do it. I've even talked a friend into doing it with me. When I began researching tri info on the net I came across BT right away. Obviously I'm drinking the BT kool-aid. I really enjoy this site. I didn't think tri training would become a way of life for me, but it has really helped me deal with my situation. I came into this with the intention of doing one tri. Now, who knows how many I'll do in the years to come. In the meantime, it's the training that has become important to me, not the actual event. I also have a running event before my first tri and two after so I'm doing a total of 5 events this year (2.59 Aarons, Max-less). So anyway, I decided to add a Sprint distance tri which is June 25th to get me ready for the Olympic distance one. I've got 3 more months to inflate my mostly useless post count. So my plan is to set the record for the most posts without having done a tri. Kind of like Bull Durham holding the minor league home run record, eh? |
