Some of you will not understand, others will be amazed and jealous.

So I'm at a wake last night and I'm talking with friends I see maybe twice a year, but they are good friends.  One says he's going to be moving back out the rural northwestern part of Illinois (Dixon area for you locals) to build a house on his family's property out there.  The have about 100 acres.  They want to raise livestock.  I said, what kind of livestock?  They said alpacas.  I could tell when they said it they have said this before and always have to follow it up with an explanation of what an alpaca is.  So I smoothly said, "Alpacas?  I'm a big fan of alpacas, I love how they run."  They were floored that someone knew what it was.

So, Oipolloi, when you retire that avatar I will have a place he can roam free the rest of his days.

By the way, I also asked them if they were raising them for meat because I told them alpaca burritos are going to be the next big thing.  Then I asked them if they can be milked.  This pretty much destroyed any credibility I had in the area of alpaca knowledge.  They did promise I could come visit them once they have some on the farm.  (I have a feeling they will be watching me closely.)

Was someone calling?

Raising Alpacas is a splendid idea.  However I have to disagree with the Alpaca Burrito idea.

I did just buy a new house and it does have a HUGE backyard.  It's too big for just one dog.  It's almost like it's missing something- it looks empty.  Maybe a few alpacas would make it look a little more full.  Hmm....

I laughed so hard when I read this I had to get up from my desk and walk around for a minute.  That scene was so funny.  Thanks for this, good one.
