Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I can start immediately. Name: kaburns1214 (Kelly) Current Training: I am currently working with Coach Doug Maclean at QT2 Systems. Prior to working with Doug I was self coached. At the moment my training is focused on building aerobic base -- lots of consitent, fairly easy running and biking. My "A" race for the year is Ironman Texas. Over the next few months I'll be entering my build and peak phases in preparation for Texas. Edited by kaburns1214 2011-12-19 7:06 PM |

Name: Scott Family Status: Married with 2 daughters ages 4 and 2 Current Training: Shadowing my training partners who are all registered for IMTX. I am self coached, and while a coach is on the to do list it's way down there. 2011 Races: Kemah Olympic, Sylvan Beach Sprint, Bridgeland Sprint, Clear Lake International Oly, Austin 70.3 2012 Races: Kemah Olympic, Bridgeland Sprint, Houston Olympic, may throw in some other cheap races. I've also been deemed a sherpa for Ms. Gallagher for IMTX. Oh and I may jump in on the local HIM in October next year. Goals for 2012: Sub 2:30 Oly and to get on a new bike. Should be a fun year even if I'm not racing that much.

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - OPEN Name: karen26.2 / Karen Story: I started running years ago as a way to lose weight. Due to several injuries, my doctor recommended I cross train (swim, bike) while healing. I found I liked biking, a lot! A friend talked me into doing a sprint, and I had so much fun I've been doing tris ever since. Family Status: I've been married for 23 years, we have a 21 year old son, and 3 dogs. My husband is super supportive and is always at my races cheering me on. When I'm having a bad day he's the one that encourages me and reminds me that I can do anything I put my mind to as he pushes me out the door. Current Training: In July I'm doing the Full Vineman, which will be by 3rd full iron distance event. I don't have a coach, just BT and really great training buddies. I'm planning on using Don Fink's Be Iron Fit for the 3rd time. 2011 Races: I kept this year simple so I could focus on my IM training. My A race was IM Wisconsin. I did the Beast of the East half iron distance in prep for Wisconsin. It was brutally hot. Planned 2012 Races: Keeping it simple again - probably will not do a half, but if I do it will be Beast of the East Half Steelman again because it's so close and cheap! I'm planning on a 5k swim. A couple of trail runs, and then Vineman. My goal this time around is to really improve on the bike. I worked hard this past year on my running, but I've never really "worked" on biking. Weightloss: I would like to lose about 10 before Vineman. I really struggle in this area, I feel like I'm always wanting to lose 10 pounds. I used to be able to drop weight no problem, but as soon as I hit my 40's, it's been extremely difficult. So this is an area I'm re-focusing on this year. Edited by karen26.2 2011-12-19 11:21 AM |

It will be my first time racing IM LP but I have ridden and run the course before. As for Quassy this will be my first brushing with it but I was told it will get me very ready for Lake Placid. |

IMO the Rev 3 bike and run are much harder than IMLP. If you have a strong race at Rev 3, you'll be in great shape for Lake Placid.

Name: crmorton / Chris Age: 27 Story: Got into Triathlon after watching both my parents at age 50 complete an Olympic distance race near my home town. They certainly knew how to inspire my bro and I to stay healthy and stay active. That was in my 2nd year university. Its been 6 years since then, and I am now in my PhD program (Mechanical Engineering - Experimental an Computational Fluid Dynamics). So if anyone out there has questions about aerodynamics, I would be happy to chime in. I feel like I have a great deal of experience in Triathlon (~25 races in the past 6 years), but I still feel I have much to learn. Hopefully by the end of this year, I will feel confident enough to become a BT mentor myself. Family Status: Married as of April 29th, 2011 (same day as the "Royal Wedding")!. But, I have been with my wife (Rebecca) since about grade 10 in high school (nearly 11 years). She has done her fair share of triathlons and is currently rocking the P90X program and has lost over 13lbs! Current Training: I help coach/run the Triathlon Club at my university, and do a decent amount of training on the side. Right now I am focusing on cycling and running, with the goal of following Jorges winter cycling plan (starting late though). In addition to that, I hope to hold 30+ mpw running, and get in the pool a couple times a week. 2011 Races: A couple of indoor triathlons, a sprint, olympic, and finished off the season with Muskoka 70.3. My primary focus was completing a list of benchmarks in swimming, cycling, and running in preparation for training for my first IM. Planned 2012 Races: I have quite a list, and it all depends on how much $ I have (being a student has its negatives), and how my training develops. April 22nd: Toronto Young Street 10k May 27th: Woodstock Triathlon (first race of the year, bizzare sprint distance though) June 3rd: Ironman 70.3 Mooseman, Newfound Lake, NH (10 hour drive) sub 5:00 main goal June 16-17th: Guelph Lake I Olympic Triathlon (sub 2:15 to hit Age Group Elite Standard, sub 2:10 to hit main goal for 2012) July 22nd: 5150 Muskoka, Entered as Age Group Elite hopefully September 9th: Ironman 70.3 Muskoka sub 5:00, but sub 4:50 if race on June 3rd is success September 14th-16th: Centurion Canada C100 Weight: I think I could definitely drop about 5lbs right now, but really not too much more than that. With a ramp-up in my training, this will come naturally. Edited by crmorton 2011-12-19 1:51 PM |

Do you go it alone or do you have to have your own boat/kayak support? Thanks! The 10K swim is an organized event and is always scheduled on a day with a ripping 3.0 knot flood tide in the San Francisco bay so it only takes most swimmers 2-2.5 hours to swim the whole thing. They do have kayaks and pilot boats with the swimmers and will reposition people if they get too far off course. |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - OPEN Hi guys, can I join to? I'm looking for some encouragement, some accountability, and lots of advice!
Name: Bulfrog / Andrew Age: 27 Story: In mid 2009 I weighed 300lbs, so started dieting and eventually running to lose weight. At the end of the year, weighing around 220lbs, I did my first HM with a friend. When doing the half marathon we heard about a new race that was starting up, the "northern crossing" multisport race from NZ's West to East coast. In 2010 I did the 100km Duathlon option. I enjoyed the duathlon so much that adding the 3rd sport was the only way to go so in early 2011 I did 2 sprint tris, which I loved. I then entered in a half ironman in December, but ended up injuring my calf in August. This turned into a 3 month lay off, a lot of weight re-gained and I'm only now able to get back into regular training. Family Status: Single Current Training: Only re started training a few weeks ago. Swiming and Biking is going OK, but I'm on very limited running (run/walk at the moment) as I come back from the calf injury slowly. My main aim for the year is base building,I want a nice big aerobic engine for some serious racing in 2013 (long term plan I know!). The first goal is to build up to a consistent 10 hours/week. 2011 Races: Mangawhai Sprint tri, Kumara Sprint tri, Northern Crossing Duathlon. Planned 2012 Races: The planned races is a fluid thing, It'll change as my fitness slowly comes back, and as funds/work allows. But at this stage the following are penciled in: Jan 28 Round Taranaki Cycle Challenge (150km) Feb 26 Mangawhai Sprint Tri March 11 Peoples Tri, Olympic/sprint (Maretai) March 31, Kai iwi sprint Tri? 21 April, Northern Crossing Duathlon June-October A yet to be determined Half Marathon December Taupo HIM Weight: Since loosing the weight, I've yo-yoed up and down between 220-240lbs. Currently on the high side of the yo yo. Hoping to get down to 190ish by the end of the year. |

Veteran 446 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - OPEN If there is still room -I would like to join. Name: Jason Story: I always watched the IM championship on TV and thought how crazy they were. I never thought it would be possible for me to accomplish something like that. I played all sports growing up and played baseball and football in college. I was the guy that hated doing conditioning. I loved lifting weights but not anything to do with endurance. I would joke with my friends that I thought I only had one lung. Then in late 2010 I decided I would attempt an IM before I got too old and regretted not trying. I bought a bike in Dec of 2010, started training and got hooked. Family Status: I have a wonderful wife of eight years and two kids (6 and 3). Current Training: Right now I am training to build a good base and stay injury free. I have decided to hire a coach this year. 2011 Races: Gulf Coast tri (half), B2B (full). Planned 2012 Races: A few halfs and IM Fla.
