Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The group is open ! I would like to get a balanced group, if possible, between male/female and will stop at 10 for now, so enjoy and welcome aboard !! |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Alex, I would like to join the group. My background: I got into biking about 2 years ago and pretty heavy this past year (I logged about 2000 miles and completed two centuries) the day after my second century I signed up for a 10k that was in a month. I tried to build my milage too fast, and injured my knees since I hadn't run in a few years. I had been eyeing triathlons all summer and thought about signing up for a local triathlon, but figured I wouldn't be able to train in enough time to give it a real go so I put it off for this year. My goals for this year are to complete a sprint distance at the local Y on my own in early February. Then complete an oly distance at the local tri in July, and if things go well financially complete the Miami 70.3 in October. About 4 weeks ago I started swimming for the first time in about 10 years or so and it has been going relatively well while I work on building my base. I picked up running again a few weeks ago after giving my knees proper time to rest and I'm building my distance up slowly to avoid re-injuring my knees. That about sums up where I am currently with my tri training. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey! I'm interested in signing up Background: At the age of 14 I was diagnosed with anorexia and was very sick and unhealthy for 10 years. 2.5 years ago I was healthy enough to join the swim team at school and been rocking out ever since with no eating disorder behaviors. I am now 27. My goal for next year to to celebrate my health and promote healthy exercise by taking on the ultimate goal of the Cozumel 2012 Ironman and while doing this I will be spreading mental health awareness everywhere I go. It might be crazy that I have never done a race triathlon but in the spring I plan on doing some and then some time in June take on my 70.3. I'm at a point when I need to start talking to other people that speak my same language and that can help make my journey come to life. 2011 Races: Walt Disney World 1/2 marathon, Dupont Forest 1/2 trail run, Lake Lure open water 2 mile swim Looking forward to this |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello All, I would like to join if there is still room. name: toddaduran/ todd story: Male 30 years old, started running about 6 months ago after a looooong time of no exercise. Work in a restaurant and have a bit of a hard time being consistant in my training. I'm up to about 20 miles a week, almost all on the treadmill now because i havent invested in cold weather running clothes yet. Buddy of mine convinced me to try trithlon, and am planning on continuing training and running a few races this year. Not strong on the bike yet, and no swimming experience what so ever. Starting a membership at the Y in January. family status: married, 1 kiddo (she's 5). Wife is an active runner, trying to get her into tri's also current training: running 4-6 times a week with 1 or 2 brick's in there. all indoor at the moment because of lack of equipment. gonna start swiming in January, probably with lessons then a coach to start 2012 planned races: Lifetime Fitness indoor tri, February. Naperville Triathlon (sprint) first part of August. And hopefully an Oly late in the season. Chicago Marathon early October I'm enjoying the running and biking more than i ever thought i would. i thought the "runners high" was total BS till i first experienced. I work in a very high volume, high stress restaurant, and running and biking calms me down and reduces my stresss more that anything. Could really use the motivation and guidance of a more experienced multi-sport athlete. Thanks for your consideration Todd

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So far in the group, we have:
So I will say there is 4 spots remaining for now !! I would prefer female, as we have a strong pack of male now, but that's OK otherwise. So, Why wait, go for it !! |
![]() ![]() |
New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will take one of those spots please? Name:meadowsd / David Story:Male, 44 years old, long daily commute and office working all day. Watched a colleague complete a Sprint Tri in September and agreed to do one myself next year (2012). Started training on 2nd October 2011 after being pretty sedentary before that (a little running). Rugby & Basketball were my sports through my 20's, dislocated my shoulder and then did Scuba diving for a few years. then gained some weight working away from home (England) living in hotels and all that entails food & beer!! I was working in Ireland which is where I met my wife and I now live over here (Ireland). Family Status:Married with 2 Boys (6 & 2). Current Training:2-3 runs per week, 1 bike ride and 1 swim (with the local Tri Club and Swim Coach). This Years Races (well next year really 2012):I have signed up for my first Tri (a Sprint) in Athy, Ireland on 3rd June 2012 but expect to do at least 3. I am also signed up for a charity 5km run on St Stephen's Day (2011). Weight Loss:I have lost 20lbs since 1st October 2011 and hope to loose another 30lbs by April 2012!!! Swimming is my strongest Biking next but new back to it and on a MTB at the moment Running my weakest 9:30-10 min mile pace and running 5km at the moment.

![]() | ![]() Ok, since the group is still open and you are welcoming females, here I am! Name: melbo55/Melanie Story: 38 yrs. old. Ice hockey goalie, Tae Kwon Do student training for black belt (hopefully before spring), triathlete since 2010. Biking is my strongest of the 3 tri disciplines, running is my weakest. Completed Rev3 Quassy Olympic this past summer, otherwise all races have been sprint distances. Family status: married, 2 dogs Current training: Well, since it is the 'off season' in my part of the world, I am mainly playing hockey and practicing TKD to prepare for my test, with a little biking and swimming thrown in the mix to keep my endurance up. I probably will not have a steady, heavy tri training schedule until after my TKD test. This year's races: 2 sprints, an Olympic, an Xterra, a few road and trail running races and 2 cancelled (weather-related) tris 2012 races: Running: planning on doing Frozen Foot run series (Jan, Feb, Mar). Triathlon: so far only registered for Escape From Fort Delaware (Olympic), but am planning on a few sprints and maybe another Olympic, possibly another Xterra. I'm a little concerned about being ready for EFFD since TKD training is taking the forefront. Weightloss: am working on losing weight. Currently (height 5'10") 188 shooting for 155 ideally but will settle for 160. Why I will be a good mentoree: I love discussing working out and exercise and learning more as well. I find being part of a group to be very motivating. edited to add age: oops! Edited by melbo55 2011-12-20 4:48 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone, so, does anybody already got some plans on how they will train to reach their goals ? Why did you choose those plan ? And also, very important, if you're already committed to some races, why did you choose those ? Share your stories, I'll start
I got my plan setup with my coach. It's a little bit pricey but find that's working for me. We discuss about what would be my A race for 2012 (Lake Placid) and then, we build from there. Why did I choose IMLP ? because I wanted to do an Ironman and I wanted something EPIC !!! So I had the chance to register online as soon as it was open and there I am
What about you ? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bit more background as promised...look forward to participating and learning. Name: James Age: 42 Family: Married with 7 year old son. Race experience: None...so I got true rookie status covered! Background: Basically was leading an unhealthy lifestyle with little to no exercise other than some occaisional hiking. Decided something had to change so bought an entry level type road bike in April. First ride was a gruelling 5 mile effort on a perfectly flat trail which had me thinking what the heck was I getting myself into. Stuck with it and caught the riding bug and in 2-3 months was riding 4-5 times a week. Completed a few half-centuries and a long ride of 65 miles while logging about 1500 miles by October. Added some low level weight training and for some crazy reason started running in September. A friend was getting ready to race a local sprint triathlon and went and checked out the event. Decided that triathlon was something that really intrigued me so added more formal cross training and got totally hooked. Major problem with the swim so took some lessons at the local high school. Swimming is by far my weakest event - to be honest, I'm still learning and will be for a long while, but slowly seeing some improvement. Running was going quite well but picked up a couple of nagging injuires - returned too soon from a calf strain which set me back another month. Prior to that had got my run distance to 5K. Not currently following a formal training plan but hope to start one in January and will be looking for some guidance. Currently getting in roughly 2 workouts in each sport per week plus a couple st sessions. 2012 Races: April 1st: Seattle Rainman - swim and bike indoors. June-Aug: Sprint races tbd. September: Finish tri season with Oly in Lake Stevens November: Seattle HM I'm holding off registering for the tri events until I get a bit more confident with the swim. I have a few detailed goals listed on my training log page. Ultimately want to be able to complete Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 in July 2013 and see where it goes from there! Cheers! James |

Hi Melanie ! Yeah, another women around What's get you into triathlons ? I got into triathlon because of a co-worker who does them (she does them much better than me, LOL) and basically got hooked after the first one. I chose Escape From Fort Delaware as a race to do in 2012 because it is unique; the swim start is out on a ferry and racers must swim back to the shore to do the bike/run. Plus Fort Delaware is haunted, and I have an interest in ghosts and such, so this is one way to get to see the old prison! Plus I wanted to do another Olympic distance. Once IMLP rolls around, let me know your bib number and I will look/cheer for you. Friends and I have been going up for the past 3-4 years for the Ironman and we will be there again this year. Beautiful, beautiful area, oh, you will love it! And Mirror Lake is a dream to swim in; so clean! |
