Expert 893 Livermore, Ca | Subject: Duck vs. human Has anyone ran into a duck while running??? This duck was comming in for a landing across the running path, we both slammed on the brakes and avoided each other by 12". It was pretty funny, I would pay good money to get a picture of that. Anyone else have any interesting animal vs. human encounters while training? |

Runner | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human I have nearly run into dogs, other people (that's the most common), and the occasional bird or reptile. Almost stepped on a snake once. That freaked me way out (not a big fan of snakes). The dogs and other people, though, they can be a mess. |

Elite 3650 Laurium, MI | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human i ran into a deer. yes, actually hit it. There was a blind gully and it was running full speed to get out of there and across the road. I was watching other deer on the other side of the road and didn't see it coming from the other side. It could stop, I couldn't stop, smacked it right square in the ass. It took off running while the deer that was following it and I just sat there about a foot apart looking at each other in disbelief. Then he took off to join the others. |

Pro 4612 MA | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human 1. Bird flying head on to my bike only change direction (sharp 90 degree turn sideways) a couple feet from my front wheel. I had to slam on my brake and almost fell. 2. Last week... when riding on the bike trail, saw a bunny looking left and right before crossing. So cute I LMAO and, again, almost fell. 3. Me taking a detour to pet on a cat while running on said trail. 4. Rode on road next to an ugly pond and on hot days saw turtles strolling on the road. |

Master 4101 Denver | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human I ran over the tail feathers of a goose once. Usually they are used to people nearby and don't even notice you but this one decided to take off as I went by. It flew next to me for about 20 feet then swerved in front of me. I slammed on the brakes but still clipped his tail. It was ok though. |

Elite 2673 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human Vortmax's story beats mine, but I did come EXTREEEMLY close to hitting a deer on my bike once. I ride in the early morning, and the sun was just coming up. I was going past an area of woods where there's a clearing and a farm field just past the trees. Well, this deer was in the farm field ambling onto the road as I silently and unexpectedly came past the trees. We both had a quick heart attack contest. Then a mash the brakes contest. Then I watched her bound back through the field, probably wondering wtf I was. Man, we were like eyeball to eyeball when I got past those trees. It was funny, and sorta cool. |

Pro 4545 Orange Park Florida | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human My latest close encounter was with a squirel. He/she/it was doing the what the heck do I do dance about an inch from my pedal as I rode by. I figured he/she/it was about to go under or through the back wheel. The pucker factor was high but no impact. I have seen a couple snakes running. Don't like them at all. The only good snake is a dead snake. I have a deal with snakes. If they don't let me see them, I won't try to kill them. |

I always thought they were so pretty until I tried walking up to one and it chased me about 200 yards. Those things are big, extremely fast and very mean. I've never run so fast. Or looked so stupid LMAO!!! About a month back, there was a Canadian goose that was attacking people trying to go into a Toys R Us in Cherry Hill, NJ. It was on the news, on the local radio stations, everything. Pretty funny stuff. They had to have the employees walk people to and from their cars! |

What do you do, train with meat around your neck, and birdseed in your pockets? Heehee!!!!! This could be a new workout plan! "Mother Nature's Survive Me Training Plan"! |

Champion 5615 | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human courtney_leone - 2006-05-10 10:57 AM Last summer while I was out riding I saw a lot of strange squirrel behavior. I was on the local bike trail and I always saw this one squirrel who would lay flat on his stomach, spread eagle, in the middle of the path and wouldn't move until I was about to hit him. It got worse, eventually I saw six squirrels doing the same thing on one ride! Haven't seen it since. You know that this was some sort of squirrel gang initiation. Did you happen to notice some bad *** squirrels in a tree nearby laughing? |

We don't really have a military so they thought it would be a good idea to train some geese to kill and then set them free in a bid to take over the US. Wait until the next migration. You'll see the devistation . |

Veteran 224 Denver | Subject: RE: Duck vs. human There was a pair of Saint Bernards who used to chase our high school x-country team as we ran by their house, but they stopped at their property line. Several waterfowl encounters at crew races in college. Once a goose dived at us as we were warming up for a race. He made several passes but there was no physical contact. Our coxswain was a pretty good screamer, so it was kind of funny. A crew coach claimed to have decapitated a goose during a race. Not non-human animals, but in college we were right across the river from the Groton CT nuclear submarine base and if we got too close to their side of the river, a boat with guys dressed in black with weapons in hand would speed out to intercept us. When I had a paper route in high school, which I did on my bike, I had to carry an extra paper because there was one dog on the route who would get pretty threatening until he got a paper. Usually he took it into the garden and peed on it. |

If your only excitement is scaring off a bunch of college kids, you'd make the most out of it too. The dog...now that's just pretty funny stuff right there. |
